Measures g's, elapsed time for acceleration, and can then compute wheel and engine HP. All for $12.99 if you have an iPhone.

It's all in the Gees
Dynolicious utilizes the accelerometer built in to your iPhone or iPod Touch to sense the motion of your vehicle. This data is sampled as many as one hundred times per second, developing a detailed picture of the car's acceleration. This information is then used to determine the speed of the vehicle and the distance travelled. Due to the unique hardware integrated into the iPhone, this can all be done with no setup, wires, or extra equipment!

Performance Measurements
0-60 MPH
Other Speed Tests (0-10 MPH through 0-100 MPH in 10MPH increments)
Quarter Mile Elapsed Time
Quarter Mile Trap Speed
Elapsed Time and Trap Speed for standard intervals (60', 330', 1/8 Mi, 1000')
Lateral G's (current and peak)
Braking G's (current and peak)
Wheel Horsepower
Estimated Engine Horsepower
Results Presentation
Realtime Speedometer and Graphs
Realtime graphical skidpad display
View results for latest test run or any saved run
View averages based on vehicle, date, or modification
Compare results between vehicles, dates, or before-and-after modifications
Configuration
Rollout 0" to 24" (separate settings for 0-60 and Quarter Mile tests)
Stores vehicle weight and drivetrain efficiency in your vehicle's profile
Calibration routine gets the maximum accuracy possible with the built-in accelerometers
Accuracy
0-60 MPH: +/- 0.08 sec*
Quarter Mile: +/- 0.10 sec*, +/- 1.5 MPH*
Pretty cool I say! Plus I just got my iPhone activated today.

Seems like the iPhone would have to be securely mounted in order to have any chance of accurate readings from the g meter.
Also seems like it would need other info like vehicle weight to determine hp.

With a little more tweaking, software could be set up to do low and high speed coast-downs and get rolling resistance and aero drag. All you would have to input is the frontal area and the car's weight (which software uses now for HP calc from 1/4 mile time I assume). It is a type of logger as the first screen-shot shows, but I wouldn't expect to throw out my DL-1 yet. Perhaps it could be set up to do real time wireless telemetry via its cellular link! Maybe they will sell a suction cup mount for mounting it on the dash. Might have to pay extra though.
This means that you have your own road dyno if you could get aero drag, and you can get a dyno chart of WHP (for FWD, RWD & AWD) vs speed. If you could input gear and differential ratios and tire's rolling radius, you could get RPM from speed and then have a dyno of WHP vs RPM. Want to know the effect fo some engine mod, easy. I would guess that software will get improved over time.
So who would have thought they would put dual-axis accelerometers into a phone?

Agreed. Sounds like its possible too, but it would take a lot more development than just doing drag racing stuff. Do the new Ipod touchs have the G sensors too?

This is sweet, but if it had track data or could trace your movements along the track with these features i would buy it in a heartbeat.
do you think it would be possible to set-up a gps position/tracking system since it already has gps and a programable software?

RAM has several iPhone mounting options for the car and motorcycle which are very good.

It's an interesting piece of software anyway.....but it will be severely hampered by the fact that only AT&T has the Iphone.
I don't know about other's cellular areas, but AT&T couldn't get me as a customer unless they reassembled my body using organs found on the black market.
Make it available for upcoming Treo/Blackberry and then we're talking.....

hehe Deutsche Telekom offers the Iphone also... but who wants to get a 1euro Iphone 3g anyways
. They also have different unlock procedures then the ATT ones, which could mean switching providers for it... bringing it to the states

I think my friend got it, I'll have to check.... but he said he wanted to put in my car for the next autox to compare him to myself. I will also have a maxQdata in the car so it should make for a neat comparison.
