they are about the same price, so with the suzuki you get 150 more cc for your money. also the suzuki has been out longer so its a lot easier to find a nice used one. i say drz

Get the DRZ. I had a DRZ400SM with a full yoshi and 3x3 mod and sold it to get my 2007 ZX6R but I really miss the DRZ, that thing was a blast to ride

I have a friend with a DRZ400SM, it's really neat, I'd love to ride one sometime.

The WR250 is a pretty new design as far as it being sold in street legal trim right? I'm sure they're excellent bikes, probably lighter than the SM, but as others have pointed out, you get 150cc more for $1500 less with the 'Zuk.

yep this is the first year for a 250 yamaha in supermoto trim. it seems to be a great bike, but i wish they at least made a 450. i bet in a couple years it will be out

im leaning to the drz at this point, especially because you cannot test ride a new bike and ive already rode the drz and like it a lot.

if i'm not mistaken, the 250x makes more power or, is faster than the drz in spite of the displacement.

if buying new, i'd get the wr250x. if i was buying used, i'd get the drz.

suzuki needs to up their game with the drz.

The 3x3 mod is where you pull the snorkel off the top of the airbox and enlarge the hole to 3x3 inches. If you do that along with a full exhaust system and rejet the carb it totally transforms the bike. It's well worth doing even if you don't get the exhaust and just go for 3x3 and a rejet.

Here is a link to the best DRZ400 forum, anything you need to know about the DRZ will be there:
http://www.thumpertalk.com/for...&f=25

I'm thinking of selling my ZX6R and getting another DRZ400SM, most fun I've had on a motorbike

You are indeed mistaken. The wr250x makes about 26 hp/16 tq. at the rear wheel in stock trim. And weighs in at a claimed 280lbs. dry. The DRZ makes about 35hp/30(ish)tq at the rear wheel stock and is claimed at 295lbs. dry. The added displacement means more "bang for your buck" as far as power per mod is concerned.

But of course the wr250x gets a 6 speed (as opposed to the DRZ's 5 speed) and fuel injection, whereas the DRZ is carb'd.

Also the DRZ makes 0-60 in around 4-5 seconds. The WR250X makes that in around 7 seconds.

It's still somewhat of a toss up as far as which supermoto is my next bike.
Husqvarna is having problems with their EFI, as well as getting parts because of the recent BMW buy out. The DRZ is slightly underpowered and slightly overweight. The WR....is well.....a 250. The Aprilias were blowing motors. And KTM is pricey. Damn, when will Honda step their game up?

Why not get a dualsport/enduro and convert it to SM?

ah ok. i still think i'd rather have the WR if i were buying new. to me w/ a motard, weight is everything.

i really like the 450/510 smr. husky's got some issues, but i still think it's the best mix of value and performance since the KTM's are so pricey. a local dealer was blowing out 610's for 6337 OTD...

Im thinking DRZ at the moment. Getting 50hp is relatively easy considering thats about a 40% increase in total horsepower. And theyre proven. And some of the weight is easily removed. But you are correct, weight is everything. Which is why the 260 lb husky is a dream, but may remain that way .

5000's an ok price with the mods. 4000-4500 is a good deal.

But mine is better! And I just might be able to convince my buddy to drive it out there on a San Diego run...

this is a dumb question, but why do dirt bikes mount the front fender so high off of the wheel? its not for travel because you can mount it right on top of the wheel and have them travel together. it just seems with all the dirt, mud, and water off road, it would protect from debrit better if its closer.

i guess it helps being broken by high jump and rocks.

WR looks better than DRZ, but it sucks we only get blue color. Japan gets black color!!!!

I liked my DRZ a lot but I just felt like it was really dated. The DRZ needs a total makeover IMO.

agreed

if i didnt do my crf450 up, i think i would have went the ktm route. 100s of bikes to choose from there, and all are titled That way you buy one a bit older and save some cash there and put it towards the conversion, just a thought...
