1996 civic auto.
I recently bought a 95 civic ex auto and it does the same. After I let go of gas, it kind of "engine brakes" around 3rd or 2nd gear and the rpms would stay high. The car would slow down til 1st gear then the rpms would go down and I'd coast. I've driven autos before and never had this behavior.
mine does it too. what i noticed with it is if your going down a hill in the snow the car will not excelerate at all it holds back and maintains its speed. i think its a nice safety feature
I'm not sure, i'm just guessing on this, but i'd say its honda's grade logic, its designed to keep the transmission from hunting between 3rd and 4th on hills. this wasn't implemented till '96 though so to the poster with the '95 EX this doesn't apply to you. To be quite honest though i've never found honda automatics to be particularly smooth, they make excellent manuals, but honda automatics leave much to be desired.
