Default 1998 honda civic tranny swap

back ground: i learned and perfected my driving skills on a 5 speed...but then someone crashed my only car(95 accord) so i got my dads 1998 honda civic ex. its got a d16y8 and honestly, the engine is pretty sick
well unfortunately its automatic and i want to go with manual.
ive actually found some ppl selling the 5spd tranny for around $100
so my question is:
does $100 for a d series tranny with 74xxx miles sound ok?

i dont want to buy another 5spd right now and would rather swap trannies for the civic
and i dont want to pay for the swap at a mechanic and im looking for some automotive classes so i can learn how to do the swap myself with some friends who have some decent knowledge about cars...
WHere can i learn best about my car's transmission and all that i need to know?

The tranny can end up being the cheap part of the swap. $100 is pretty much what d-series trannys average where i am, but i think a lot of it depends on where you are and who you know. here a CX or DX tranny goes for around $50 - $100 private sale, Si trannys are around $150 - $200, junkyard probably wants a lot more. theres a lot of other stuff you'll need as well though. pedals, ecu, shift linkage, mounts, clutch, flywheel, flywheel bolts. starter, since its a Y8 possibly a new intake manifold and throttle body, they're different between the automatic and 5 speed, assorted nuts and bolts. Its a lot of little things that add up fast. The best way to do the swap IMO and the way i've always done it is to get a donor car to take everything from. Either find one written off or with a bad body/blown engine cheap and take what you need off it and part the rest out then sell the shell for scrap.

100 dollars is pretty much what they go for.
