Well, that's different, but there's no reason it wouldn't work. I, however, would have welded it angling the ...other way.

Wastegates right on the housing work pretty well.

Common on FP turbochargers. DSMers do that all the time

Just because it has been done, doesn't it mean it should have been done. I don't recommend that on the S366, especially with its larger exhaust wheel.

I may be asking a very dumb question but this is how we learn...Wouldn't the wastegate be better off before the turbine? It seems like it might be a close call when it comes to boost creep. (please don't flame me )

Not to mention welding steel onto cast iron isn't exactly the easiest thing to do.

that was the only problem I thought about when looking at the pics..

besides that, it looks like it would be fine!

from the pic i'm looking at, at the top, it looks like it is welded in right above the turbine

Looks like the right direction to me since it funnels the exhaust gas from the header before it hits the turbine.

while we are on the subject; a lot of turbo bikes i've seen don't use an intercooler, how come?

Yeah, I see what you're saying, I would have just angled the wastegate down with the flow of air though provided space wasn't a problem personally.

1) Where are you going to put it?
2) The piping is all exposed.
3) Most aren't running enough to warrant it with the piping being exposed like that.

some busa owners build their intake plenum to function as a intercooler. they takes a DSM sidemount core and make weld it on top of the ITB's.

but generally you dont have to worry about detenation in a motorcycle because the piston speed is super [freak]ing fast and doesnt really give detenation a chance to happen

i've seen that design before on other motorcycles most of which had boost control issues. BUT they were slightly redesigned, whether they worked out i dont know. personally. i like the wastegate welded to the turbine itself because im trying to keep my A/C and want to have enough room.

They work. If you weld it in the right spot, facing the right way, you will have just the same amount of room, and you won't have to weld on the turbo.

will that require me getting a turbine thats pretty much a internal WG design, but only missing the internal WG ???

Of mounting it on the downpipe itself could be an option.
