Okay so I'm thinking about upgrading the suspension on my '90 DX hatch. I was thinking a ground control/KYB GR2 combination, is this a good setup? I'm trying to keep costs reasonable and I don't really think I know enough about suspension setups to really warrent adjustable shocks. Are these the only 2 pieces I would need to complete the setup or are there more? I've been trying to read through some articles and forums but I don't quite know all the vocab yet so I don't understand everything I read. Also the car has 207,000 miles on the stock suspension should I replace any of the other bushings bits etc while I'm at it? Thanks a lot.
i hear tein/kyb seems to be the suspension of choice non coilovers...2xx,xxx miles is a lot so what has been your matenaince schedule like? oil changes every 3k? timing belt and others replaced every 40-50k? just to get an idea so we can help you out with things you shoudl replace
I can only tell you my experience with almost the exact same situation.
I have a 100% stock, 90 CRX Si, 211K miles.
The front springs were rusted, to the point that the lower coils had broken off, and shifted in the preches, so they need to be replaced.
After a ton of reading here and elsewhere on the net, I went with H&R OE Sport springs and Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks. This setup seemed to suit my budget, and driving style. About $525 total shipped.
And as of today. Its been about week with the new front suspension. (I've only managed to put the front shocks/springs on, not enough time and money to get to do the rears, as of yet).
I'm 110% satisfied.
The ride is maybe a tad bit softer than my worn out stock front suspension, but with no body roll, a slight drop. And much, much improved feel and responsiveness. And that's with shocks on their softest settings. After I get used to the soft settings I'll make it a little stiffer.
HTH

I've only owned the car for about a month since then I've:
Changed Oil
Changed Spark Plugs
Replaced Front Rotors + Pads, Rear Drums and Shoes
Installed Off Brand Short Ram Intake, C-Pillar Bar and Rear Strut bar
I also have Off Brand tie bars and Front Strut Bar (not installed yet)
Installed new(ish) Primax 14" Wheels
The Engine was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago
the Tranny was rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago
It burns about a quart of oil every 1500 miles, the previous owner was semi-diligent with care. It drives fine but I want to start getting involved in HPDE and eventually road racing, I figured I'd start with the handling side and move on to the engine later.
I have no idea when the timing belt was last replaced, or anything along those lines. I'm assuming that when the engine was rebuilt a lot was replaced but I don't know specifics.
EDIT: Both the Tein/kyb and H&R/Tokico setups look great I think their both out of my pricerange, about $500 for all 4 wheels is what I was looking to spend

Have to say...I was rocking the h&r and tokico setup. I have to say it was pretty stiff for me. Of course I think I got a old kit or something...(it was on the car when I got it). I have heard alot of good stuff about the KYB setup. I think I will go with either them or skunk2.
