I am helping a friend out and doing a tune up on his 89 sedan and i am having this a problem........

Before new plugs, wires, cap, and button car ran fine until it downshifted(automatic trans) to 2nd. when it went to about 4000 rpm it sputtered and eventually died. put it in park and it started right back up. but otherwise ran fine, as long as you didn't punch the gas. Trans is about on its last leg as well

After all new stuff, car drives fine for a minute then it starts bogging and acting like it is going to die. Sometimes it would almost catch itself and get power but sputter slightly until red light and coming to a stop, idles kinda rough but drove for rest of trip. Finally died on the way home tonight and it won't restart..little smoke from under the intake mani somewhere. cranks and cranks but won't actually start. The motor is a D15B2. DPFI

 

i have searched and searched to no avail. Seen a couple people with similar problems but no definate answer. Its not my vehicle and im not used to the auto tranny so im very frustrated. I am going back to the car at some point this evening to try and see if i can get it to turn over and also see what code it is throwing. once it dies it throws the CEL. put in park and turn key back over CEL comes on with rest of normal lights and goes away like normal just b4 cranking. but it wont turn over anymore

I don't know what the problem is...but I do have a D15b2 with auto tranny for sale...$250 for it all. It has around 75K miles on it. You can check my for-sale thread in the marketplace forum. It fine ran without any problems, I was going to swap the motor out for something more powerful but have since decided to part out the whole car. You can PM me if you're interested.
