the truth about the Mac boost solenoid?
i'm looking to see what part # of mac boost solenoid people are using or if they know what the correct one is for the hondata S300?
theres a few part #'s listed here in the archives, but then there is people claiming that they are wrong and will burn out after a bit??
i am all for supporting sport compact business's, but when you can buy any mac solenoid locally for about $25cdn, people are wanting $80-100us + shipping.
am i missing something, are these particular solenoids more expensive?
any help is appreciated

36A-AAA-JDBA-1BA
That seems to be the common number on the intraweb. Some are posts from last year, and nobody has complained about it.
The 36A series is rated for continuous use (always energized), and is capible of extremely high cycle rate. It also goes for ~$20 from dealers (usually in pairs), which makes me happy since the alternative I found was $29, and untested.
So YES, AEM/Hondata are price-gouging for sure. Unless they claim it cost $100 for the sticker...

thanks guys! i have seen debates on whether or not it was the 35 series or the 36 series.
i'll try out that part # and see how it works.
how do you have yours hooked up HiProfile?

I was poking around, and found something interesting. There are some obvious differences, and some that aren't. The PDF shows the 35 having the more similar case to Hondata, but... the 35's pdf does NOT list any 12vdc models availible. The 36 looks like the AEM/ECtune version, and IS availible in 12vdc. You could probably get a 35 custom-made (they just cut the resistance in half), but a 24vdc solenoid @12vdc will work with half the power & speed, if at all. Skimming some other parts, the 35 just offers more protection against power flucuations/etc. Nothing you need unless you have a CRAP dizzy.
All in all, I'd get the 36. According to the spec sheet, you should also run some resistance in the power lines. +10% of 12vdc is 13.2vdc, and a car can see over 14vdc at some points. This would apply to ALL solenoids, not just ones you special order.

peeled the sticker off, and it is a 36A-AAA-JDBA-0GA
soooo looks like i paid more than i had to, but a much better price than the AEM or Hondata one. life goes on!
just ran accross a guy using a 35A though:

here is a guide from the MAC site. http://www.macvalves.com/produ...6.pdf Once the part # is broken down, it is pretty easy to decipher which solenoid you need.
hope that helps

That would be 36A-AAA-JDBA-1BA? I'm just not so sure about the "Manual Operator" and "Electrical Connection". So how much do these things really go for and where?

Maybe you didn't pay too much, at least for that specific P#, as that has some options different from the other listed P#. But given both will work, overall you may have paid more.
I think the Manual Opperator is the manual override. Basicly if the valve fails with pressure holding it shut, you'd use that to open it - or just opperate/test it w/o power. I'll ask when I call again.
One thing I noticed is the last page in the PDF (317) shows many other options. Thats how that guy got a 35 series in 12vdc. The GA is for a plugin version, the flying leads (BA) is all you really need. In that 35 thread, he actually had issues BECAUSE of the connectors. He also has the locking extended opperator, to give you an idea what it is. Having none would probably reduce mass and increase speed.
I'd still want the 5.4w 36-series, since having the most power and most flow will ensure that you get the most control. The 35-series may be marginally faster (smaller valve?), but not by much due to the rod mass.

Because nobody really does. They'd just be resellers, buying from the same sources you could. You have to look at the MAC website, look at their list for the closest seller/retailer (which is going to be an Industrial Supply shop, not a auto/speed shop), then call that company. 90% of the time its going to be a special order, but things get shipped quick in that industry.
Been looking around at these valves as I have found one for sale here on the boards. I have yet to get the part number from seller but he says its a 35 series. I found a forum through google with some info on the valves http://forums.evolutionm.net/s...84977. The first post gives the same part number as you guys are saying along with a picture of the valve. If you go down to the third post and a guy give the contact info of where he ordered his MAC 36series. I have sent an email to that supplier and will update when I get a reply.
Went back to google and searched "mac valves 36 series valve." On page 2 I found a link to this site VeneerSupplies.com which carries and sells the MAC 36series valves and looks like $25.20 before shipping. From that link, is that the correct valve I will need or so I need to select something other than the "110 VAC" from the voltage option drop down menu? Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

i bought the 36 series at first. It didn't work with my hondata set up. Hondata reads a @ 20 hertz and the 36 series valve I had fluctuates from 20-40 hertz. I ended up with the once stright from hondata problem was sloved. I think that's the 35 series.

The hondata one you have have a part number on it or have they removed the factory label and replaced with theirs?
Update: I have emailed Joe at VeneerSupplies.com with an inquiry about the MAC valve I have posted below. He replied and said they did not carry that valve but said I was the 3rd today to inquire about it and wanted to know why it was so popular. I sent an email in reply and gave him the run down of it being used on Honda turbo motor applications as a electronic boost controller. I told him that Hondata sells the exact valve people have emailed him about for $100. I also asked him if he would be interested in a group purchase/order as I feel he would get a great response and a great shot at some business. I told him I felt that PLENTY of people here on the boards would purchase the 36A-AAA-JDBA-0GA valve at a price of $30-40 shipped and to let me know if he was interested. Once I hear back from him, I will let you guys know what he says.
With what HybridcivicLS-T said, we need to get to the bottom of this and see if we can get a shot at a group purchase/order and save some money

UPDATE TO GROUP ORDER/PURCHASE
Received and email back from Joe at VeneerSupplies.com about the group order/purchase. Here is what his email said:
"I would be able to get a group buy started but I couldnt provide the individual shipping part of it. I could however, order "x" amount of this unit from MAC and ship them all to one person who would have to distribute them.
Let me know if you are interested.
Joe"
I have sent him an email in reply to see if he would be able to take individual payments from people. If the 36A-AAA-JDBA-0GA MAC valve is the correct valve that Hondata uses/sells, and Joe will be able to take individual payments from committed buyers, I would be willing to supply Joe with a number of these 36A-AAA-JDBA-0GA valves to order and provide you guys with the information in order to make the payment to him. I would then be willing to receive all the valves and then ship them out the the committed buyers. Only thing I see is paying for the valve through Joe and then having to pay me for shipping out to you.
If you are interested, feel free to PM me on here so I can start a head count. If I see plenty of interest in this thread, I will start a thread here on the boards and see how many I can get and try to make this a one order deal.
Once again, with what HybridcivicLS-T said, I feel we need to get to the bottom of which valve is the correct valve to order from MAC to ensure the money is well spent/saved.

Yet another Joe @ VeneerSupplies.com email reply
Here is what he has sent in reply:
"I could order them for you in "bulk" and ship all of them to you. You would then need to ship them to the buyers and collect their payment. I would just need a one time payment from you for the bulk order.
Or...
I might be able to sell them as a "hidden" product on my website that you could only access from a special link. In that case, I would need a commitment (payment) for a certain amount of orders before I would order from the factory. Of course, in this case, I would have to earn some profit of it.
Joe"
I have sent a reply asking for a ballpark figure including shipping for the valve if it were to be a "hidden" product from his site. Sure I will have another update here soon. Hope nobody takes this as thread jacking. Just trying to help the ones intereted in the valve

sounds like they have a deal with a "company" or "companies" that allow them to sell only to them so they can set what prices they want.
my part number is not on it. i saw something on the back but not the long number.
do people still play "monopoly"? just curious. i hate that game. but the people who have the most property wins

Joe emailed me back and said that he has contacted MAC to see what he can get the valve for. He said once he hears back from them, he will be able to give me a ballpark figure of how much the valve will be through him shipped.

the problem i see is that we cant confirm which solenoid is being used. as HybridcivicLS-T stated, the 36series would not work with his hondata. it seems as though the solenoid that hondata uses is perhaps a custom 35 series?
those guys using the solenoids from tdautowerk's.. what ecu are you using them with? any issues?
