nee to paint civic si and need tips
so i finally decided to paint my ebp em1. reason being that the paint the entire front end is like shedding from from the highway miles and mainly becuase its looking kinda ugly. but my question is simple, i want good quality work as close to oem endurance as possible. what should i tell the painter or what should i be aware of when trusting to a body shop for this?
ps. using oem paint again
ps. using oem paint again
i want him to remove the fenders, bumpers, side skirts, lips, tailights and mirror to get an optimal paint. should i tell him to apply a certain number of coats of paint, primer, clearcoat, etc in order to get oem quality?
ps. i hope this isnt more than 3'gs

Why would you tell a paint shop how many coats of paint to put on your car? Im sure your car is not their first and they know what they are doing.
When I paint my cars I only pull the bumpers and mirrors that are going to be painted. Then I pull the rest of the parts like headlights and tail lights. Also any moldings or door handles. I never pull the fenders or hoods. One guy pulled the doors on my widebody hatch to make is easier for himself.

well ive had cars painted before and had the bumpers gently bumped by another car and the paint cracked like if it was made of glass. thats why im asking how much paint is used or what quality of paint is used from the factory to make the paint durable like oem. but yes i still want fenders, hood, both bumpers, door handles, and moldings taken of to eliminate that chance of overspray and get a better finish even if it cost me more
I took my brother's integra to one of my favorite body shops around my area who do great work, and they quoted me 5k for the whole car, and of course this is with removing ALL of the trim and removable body parts, etc. and then replacing the door handles because they come colored from the factory I believe? I don't know I can't remember this was awhile ago.
If you're doing a metallic paint, you want to leave as many panels on as possible, minus the bumpers. If you take them off to paint, the metal flake will land differently so when it's out in the sunlight, it'll look like you have them painted different colors. I GOOD shop for a decent "you get what you pay for price" will be anywhere from 2800-3500. You can save yourself a lot of money by pulling off most of the trim yourself. Keep in mind, if you don't have connections, pulling your windows is gonna be another 3-400, not including the new trim you'll need.
