Default poor man's type R

hey guys,

I hope you can help me with this. I am planning to buy a B16A2 engine for my EG hatch. The stock engine of the 1992-1995 EG civics here in the Philippines is PH12 that is why I would like to perform a swap.

I am planning to install a B16A2 engine. Can I replace its pistons with those of a B16B? I am wondering if it can be replaced without any necessary parts, like a bolt-on. Then I am planning to change its head and change the stock cams with those of a B16B. Will this fit also? Lastly, I am planning to install TODA camgears.

How much HP do you think will my engine be? I hope you can help me. I will be posting now and then for any questions and updates of my project. BTW, here is a pic of my project:

Dude you have got to resize that picture.

N-E-way, yes, almost all B series stuff swaps with other B series motors. So you will be able to fit CTR (B16B) pistons in your block and yes, you can also do the cams.

I would suggest getting an intake manifold from the B16B as well, huge short runners.

Follow my signature and check out there compression ratio calculator to see what compression you will be running.

Power all depends on how the motor is broken in and treated. If someone abuses it there are not going to have the power of someone who did everything the right way to properly build and brake in the motor.

thanks Spade! I am also planning to install a Toda racing clutch and flywheel. It's on a shop right now, I had it repainted. Whn it comes out, I will be installing KYB AGX shocks and Neuspeed greens. I am planning to install a DC Sports 4-2-1 stainless steel headers rather than a CTR headers, what do you think?

What is your goal with the car? Just a nice street with a little power or are you going to go to a road track every now and then?
Drag strip?
Street races?

How much to you consider for comfort over performance? Those all effect my decision in advising someone about there choice in parts.

I am planning to build a sleeper. Some Lancer guys are annoying that they keep their engines revving during stop lights. I want a sleeper at the same time a fuel-efficient daily runner. Do you think I will have a 185HP, which is my target?

185 at the wheels? No.
The B18C (type R) is rated at 195 but only puts out 165-168 whp.
The GSR motor is rated at 170 and only puts out around 148 whp.

Filipino in the hizzouse!!! Wassup SuPeR_MaN, just read your post and I'm glad to see someone in the motherland interested in Hondas as in the States. Is it poppin as much as it is over here?

Anyways, you said you are swapping a B16A into your hatch, what model is it right now anyway? I remember going back to PI a while back and saw a few SiR civics rolling around town and I'm sure they just import them straight out of Japan. Would it just be easier to trade your car in for an SiR stock with B16A in it already?

Oh, and I hear they have a roadcourse in Subic Base, Olongapo City where my dad is from. I should be going back to PI this Xmas so I know I'm gonna check that out, you should too and lemme know what it's like! Just droppin a line, later bro!

b16b's r not based off of b16a blocks..they r based on the 1.8R blocks so even simply putting ctr internals in a b16a doesnt make it a poor mans CTR..just a b16a with some ctr internals.b16b is basically destroked.

i also hear other people refer to ls vtec with R internals as poormans R..not the case either...poor mans R = starting with gsr block..and b16a head..go from there.

Thanks SANBST! Right now, those racing circuits in Batangas and Subic are the legal ones sanctioned by the PRDF(Philippine Drag Racing Foundation). Most people here are up to those illegal drags, like those in Libis, Mindanao Avenue and those in Paranaque. There are also legal ones in MHC(Manila Harbour Center).
