Default My car won't start after a car wash...Need help diagnosing it

I have a 94si. After washing the car it would not start anymore. No crank, fuel pump priming, but will not turn over...just silent. Any ideas on what it can be? I was thinking the sensor on the clutch, but how do I check to see if that is still good. I push started it and drove it home. Drove fine without a problem. Did I short out something? I've checked and no water leaked anywhere. Or can it just be bad timing and the starter went out on me.

Sounds to me like the starter, or possibly battery. I dont see why it would be the clutch as it being inside the car after a wash. What seems to work with alot of starter problems is hitting it while someone is cranking it. Works very often.

Take the starter to a Schucks or Auto Zone. Did you wash the engine bay?

Definately the starter. If the car is automatic then you must take it off. But if its stick have some people push it while you or someone is inside press the clutch and hold it in as you put 1st gear and let them push the vehicle flinstone style. Once you get some good speed Pop the Clutch and the car will turn over. Then its your starter DUH!

Or B take a wire from the black and white wire on the starter and disconnect it then touch the wire to the prong on the solenoid and touch it with the positive of the batter. If it cranks good car should start. If it has no action its the starter.

Guys....

He says the fuel pump isn't priming.

When anybody says they have a Civic and the fuel pump doesn't prime, no crank, nothing...you know what the first thing to check is: MAIN RELAY!

I'm thinking starter too. I will jump the connectors on the starter to the solenoid and see if it turns over. If not, then I guess I have a bad starter.

if its not your starter thats bad the only other thing would be your ignition switch. good luck

i had the same problem. went out one day, turned key and no action. changed to one of my other starter that came from a running car, still nothing. checked voltage at starter solenoid B+ while cranking and got nothing. turned out to be a bad ignition switch. and yes when this happened i can push start my car

Also check the starter switch at the top of the clutch pedal, as well as the starter cut relay.

are you talking about the ignition on the steering column or something else? I've checked the switch at the top of the clutch and it seems fine. Where is the starter cut relay?

Got done checking the starter and its fine. Whirls up when I jump it. Next step will be the ignition switch...doesn't seem to expensive to replace so I will give that a try.

Maybe the OP should have structured his sentence better...

I took it to mean no crank AND ALSO no fuel pump priming.

I guess where you can get confused, I said fuel pump priming right after I said no crank.

have you check all your fuses? you should try that. water could have shorted something somehow and blew a fuse.

it is priming, if you read the whole thread youll see.

jump the wht(bat) with the blk/wht(st) i think and make sure its out of gear, if it starts then good. if not then you need a new ignition.

Are you referring to the wires behind the white ignition cap?
