Default How has everyone been weathering the last year of surprises?

From a racer and sponsor's stand point the last 2 years have been full of surprises and lots of obstacles to over come. From NHRA closing their own series to the folding of NOPI not to mention the economy sucking and gas being more expensive than rent.

How are you guy's doing?

There is alot of uncertainty in the sport which is going to deter new people and sponsors from entering sport compact as well as losing alot of racers to other non import racing series. Me personally, I plan on weathering the storm because I'm so certain that sport compact racing is the future and will thrive someday.

we are weathering it ok. me and my brother are just working on making our setup as perfect as we can with our budget. and we are trying to hit as many races that are close enough to us whether it be IFO, or BOTI, or what ever it is. all i can say we should be ready for next year with all this time on our hands.

Dan you coming to ADRL this weekend?

havnt been driving much.... doing some odds and ends to try to make some extra side money which has been paying off pretty well. trying to get the car to the track but little stupid things keep holding me back.

who else thinks this whole "speculation" thing applies to sport compact? everybody thinks gas is going to be more expensive so it is...... some like to talk about sport compact dying and it seems to have a direct effect.

i dunno..... i think the way things went this season is going to be better in the long run.....starting next season.

Speaking of gas prices are you suppose to be at the gas pump making life decisions. "Oh lord I can't get no gas I got 6 cigarettes left!"

I chose to actually start assembling my cars now that the economy (and my business) is slow. Unfortunately, it just means that I am now realizing that I need to spend a hell of a lot more money with less coming in. The price of gas isn't that big of a deal to me, I just started driving my civic instead of my diesel truck.

What does suck is trying to assemble a race car to rules that may or may not exist by next season, so I'll just make my best guess and ask the guys that normally lead the pack, as the rules will probably follow them.. Hi Tony1 Besides, how often is T1 Race Development wrong?

I have not had a good season. From my built motor spinning a rod bearing, to then blowing up my stock motor, it has been an expensive year on that end. I will prob get everything fixed and then my turbo will blow. I still went to all the races even knowing I had no chance of winning, wasting all the money in gas and hotels. I am kind of glad that the season got cut short, between work being so crazy and the price of gas, and the heat. I have actually saved some money this past month by not racing. Althought I am sure everyone miss shirtless chad at the events, now you just have to come to the beach to see that spectical.

It is unfortunate that gas prices have skyrocketed especially diesel. This will hamper travel. Even the NHRA Full Throttle series is seeing problems with the Top Fuel class not being full. Nevertheless, I like to think positively about things and CREATE SOLUTIONS rather than waste time talking about problems. What can we do to solve.

On the brighter side of things, sport compact drag racing is back in the magazines. I have to thank SourceInterlink for inceasing the number of pages in the books. This is a good sign for Sport Compact Drag Racing. Manufacturers in my opinion can get a return on their investment seeing the raceacars they support in the books. After all, your sponsors (marketing partners) need to sell parts. There exists a lot of retention value with magazines. Despite the bad news that is out there I believe our Sport Compact Drag Market is still strong it just was'nt covered. Competitor counts are good but can be better. The spectator base is still very strong and this can be obvious from the past PAN-AMS. It will take time. The competitors need support. I believe the magazines and their coverage of Sport Compact Drag Racing will bring manufacturers back in, to support the competitors. This is a good sign. But remember things take time. 2008 is a shake up year. I would recommend everyone to race within your means. Do not overextend yourself financially. Do not use credit cards. They are pure EVIL. Good things as well as marketing partners (Sponsors) come in time. Have fun with Sport Compact Drag Racing.

I love Sport Compact Drag Racing! If I was addicted to anything else I would be dead.

My measley 2 cents.

Try not to use the word "sponsorship". I think it is a bad word. "Marketing Partner" is much better because you and the manufacturer are in it together to grow together. The definition I suppose would be a symbiotic relationship. "Sponsorship" carries the too many connotations of being one-sided. Just a suggestion.

from the god father of import drag racing himself... listen to him, he knows his stuff

with taking on tasks at battle of the imports, i can agree first hand seeing the changes of sc drag racing. it is getting much better every round we go. i believe sc drag racing will be back in full force in 2009 and beyond.

well said mr. b.

with all the changes made in my life over the last 2 years, and the possibility of an upcoming career change, and my wedding next week (jk) i havent had the chance to race. i have pitted for a few friends, and that was fun.

between last year getting the car running, and this year getting it consistent, (i still hope) with the help and well wishes of the fiance, and the financlial / physical help from nasteboyii, i think the fall nats and I vs D, we shall have more fun than last year.

i hope to have a place to race if the car comes around, i really like the idea of an outlaw fwd class, not that id be able to compete, but who knows that may open up the sfwd/ts style class for people like me w/o the budget.

who knows, from a non racer/ spectator it was disappointing to see how the season went, but we can only go up from here (phoenix reference) i cant wait for the fall nats. will be a great shootout, and hopefully we can get my car where i hope it should be

I'd be careful about saying that in a public forum, not that there's anything wrong with that.

The year off has given Ryan and I a chance to change plans on the car and given time to think about choices. It's been a blessing not having to worry about what's going on right now. The car will be out next April time frame and hopefully run the numbers rota's set for his goal soon there after. Luckly it looks like Hot Rod in not effected by most of the changes.

$35 race tickets at Vegas for 1 day adult passes are not going to help anything. For me, another adult and 1 kid it was $76.00 I would not go again next year if that is the price unless I was racing. Free ADRL races

That is a double edged sword. ADRL has a few sponsors that pay for the tickets so everyone gets in for free.

BOTI can't offer that just yet. If we plan on having these races in the future we need to support them by showing up to spectate. Maybe in the near future the ticket cost can come down to help people be able to afford to come support the racers.

I guess you really wouldn't like the price of a Pro B-Ball game . Come on 76 dollars for three , that's cheap for what you got to see .

Are you kidding me?

I went to a few Laker games last year. They cost me $26.00 a seat. I can go to the same Staples center and watch the X-games for $10.00 a person. I also went to a Anaheim Angles baseball game and paid $12.00 this year. at their stadium I watched the monster trucks for $10.00 a person. Music concerts are $25.00 a pop. I went to Pomona to watch nitro cars run. That cost me 30.00 to get in. Six flags theme park only cost $30.00 to get in.

If it was so worth $35.00 a person to enter the event, why is this post even up? Why all the concerns and why have multiple venues closed the doors? Everything pertains to money or lack of. I rented a car to save gas on my truck, drove the 300 plus miles to Vegas just to watch a race and support the industry that I love and want to see strive. I have been in this sport for a very long time and have seen all the transitions. I have never paid so much for 1 day to watch import racing and frankly, those cost are not going to be family orientated and will not bring younger youth into the sport. I can get a couple magazine subscriptions which will support the sport and they will provide me with 12 months of enjoyment.
