Default Engine Surge Problem

First of all i have a 1990 Honda Accord EX 2.2l A***4 or something like that. theres a 1 or 4 engine model. i have the 4.

Ok heres my problem.

my engine keeps surging. when i start it the rpms go to about 2,000 then they go down to about 1,000. then it continues to surge up and down in about 3 second intervals. goes up to 2,500 then all the way back down to 1,000. back up, then back down. over and over again.

its only in park that this happens. in gear or reverse this does not happen.

i havent checked all vacuum lines but the ones i have checked seem to be snug, in place, and not damaged.

i just got this car and theres no way it will pass smog like this... no way in HELL.

i figured its either the computer fighting the actual engine in a tug-of-war match or the throttle positioning sensor.... or maybe another vacuum line that i missed.

either way i really need to figure this out. thanks guys!

I would start by going into the Accord FAQ, using Ctrl-F and finding "iacv" clicking that thread, reading that thread, then do what it says.

most likely a vacum leak. either one of ur lines broken, or ur intake manifold gasket could be bad. has anything been done to the car lately? ask. or u can just try to clean or get a new IACValve . its located i think in the front of the intake manifold in accords. 3 bolts i believe. has coolant hoses going to it.
