Default About to swear off Honda - PLEASE HELP!

I’ve owned the car for 6 years. It’s a 99 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder automatic with about 165000 miles. The car has been experiencing a very intermittent issue with acceleration / lack of power. Most of the time, while accelerating, the engine will groan and will not accelerate smoothly with the push of the pedal. It feels as though I’m pressing the brake while accelerating. I have checked and replaced brakes as well as flushed the brake fluid. I have had the brakes inspected and they check out good. I have replaced the MAP sensor and inspected all vacuum hoses as well as checked the pcv valve for proper working order. The fuel mixture also seems to be correct. The timing belt has been changed. The dealer was so perplexed that they replaced the Transmition 3 times in attempts to correct the issue but they did not. The twist is that some days the car feels brand new making very smooth power then, as if someone flipped a switch, the car is running horrible and not making any power. I purchased the Actron elite autoscanner and ran this on the computer. There are no codes and all sensors check out ok. All tests are successful. So, everything says that the car is fine but it is not. I have been to multiple mechanics and have asked around a great deal in hopes that I can find a solution somewhere. So, I am turning to the pros. Any help on this issue would be great. If not, no sweat I’ll get a 2007 – 2008 BMW where all maint costs are covered for the life of the vehicle but, we all know how temperamental BMWs can be. Thanks in advance.

So many misspellings in there and run on sentences.

But I can tell you that if you did any research what so ever , not just on honda-tech but on google you'd find out those year Accords have bad automatic transmissions.

Make a coherent post and maybe you'll get help

Yes, I did a substantial amount of research. Like I said, Honda replaced the tranny 3 times in the matter of 1 year due to it being suspect. It is not the transmition. Oh, and I didn't post to get criticized on my spelling by was looking for help. The above is "incoherent" because it was written for a different forum at 2:00am but the forum is down and wasn't accepting posts. It was written after struggling with the car all night. So, how about you run along and perhaps someone else could shed some light on this. I'll rewrite the earlier post to make more sense later.

It sounds like you need to go to a different mechanic. I would stay away from someone who replaced something 3 times and you still have the same problem.

Take it to a different mechanic. Have them diagnose the problem and tell you what they think it is. Then if you want, take it to another mechanic and have them tell you what they think. Have them go drive it, not just have you explain it to them. That way they can find out what the problem really is.

Is your D4 light blinking at any point, during all of this? I suppose it could be something as simple as the shift solenoid, or wires.

You already took it to the pros. Look at it this way you got a new transmission in it for nothing. I would take it to another dealer.

Haha much better.

1) Are they rebuilding the same one?
2) If they're doing that buy a rebuilt one from honda and have them drop it in - don't go to a side shop (you say dealer but not Honda dealer specifically)
3) Call American Honda, express your frustration and demand for some type of compensation - whether it be another new tranny or something along those lines.

I would have the wiring to the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor checked for faults in connection that could give you intermittent signal losses that cause the car to run into default, "limp in mode." Although the 99 accord being an OBD2 equipped vehicle, should store factory DTC (diagnostic Trouble Codes) for at least 20 to 40 good trips and key cycles that is unless this problem happens less often that 20 to 40 good trips without experiencing the same problem. i would suggest a factory Honda scan tool be given a shot.

Outstanding! That is a great idea. From what I know, the position sensor is located toward the bottom of the engine under the pulley. I will look into this today. Where is the camshaft position sensor located? Thanks

the camshaft position sensor is located directly below the distributer on the left side of the engine as you look at it straight on. there should be a smallish connector connected to the head. this sensor is easily distinguishable from all the other wires arround the distributer because this sensor being a variable reluctance sensor (vrs for short) only has 2 wires a signal and ground so identify the plug by pulling away the sillicon wire insulator and if it has 2 wires your right on the money.

CKP = Crankshaft Pos. Sensor
TDC = Top Dead Center sensor
CYP = Cylinder Pos. Sensor

Is there a cam sensor on the 99 F23's????

Anywho,

The TDC sensor is the one located on the oil pump housing behind the crank pulley. Both the CKP & CYP sensors are located in the distributor.
