S2000 VS BIKE
hey guys
im just looking for some opinions here, because im having a hard time making my mind. ive been wanting a motorcycle since forever. last summer i was going to buy one but i bitched out the last minute and bought my s2000. ive been thinking about it everyday over the past year. i have my licence, and will buy nice gear once i get it. i want a SV650 or Monster as my first bike so i dont get screw myself over by all the power... the supersports have to offer. i worked EMT for a while in NYC and saw what being and idiot can do to you on a motorcycle. plus i need my legs and arms for all the sports i do (soccer, Bouldering....)
My ride will pretty much be a 12mile commute everyday to school threw the backroads with lil traffic. please leave me your opinions and tell me what you would do if you were stuck in my situation
thanks in advance

Make your decision by TONIGHT? That seems like a hurried decision.
So I'm assuming you are getting rid of the S2k and getting a bike? I'd keep the S2k AND get a bike. It's convenient to have a car around, and SV650's and Mosnters don't cost a lot to purchase. Just save up some more and you can have both.

i really cant afford doing that. ill def buy a car once i get rid of the s2000. probably an older civic or something. Bikes have been on my mind constantly for that past 2 years. and i really want to get it out of my system

I agree with Marm. Having ONLY a motorcycle is not practical. Sure, you'll save SOME gas, but in the end, it's going to be very inconvenient for you.
It just sounds weird that someone who has an S, would downgrade to a Civic and a motorcycle.. Doesn't make much sense to me. Worst case scenario, keep the S and finance the bike.. You'll have a nice car and a fun bike.. win win..

i have a miata and 2 bikes... there are definitely days where i wish i had something more practical than a 2-seat sportscar. plus if you end up really getting in to bikes, the car becomes much less fun and more just an alternate mode of transport. *shrug*

I will def have a car, that is not a question. it will probably be an integra or something similar. i do alot of outdoors sports and i need a bigger car to move my bicycle, snowboard.... and other gear, and i also really want a bike, and i really cant afford three vehicles hehe

if you think youre going to get another car and a bike when you sell the s2k then definitely do it.
the s2k isnt much more practical than a bike at your age. i know that much
get like a gen3 integra or civic or something, keep it stock, and get that sv650. you wont regret it in the slightest

You're an idiot if you drive or ride w/out full coverage.
Now with that out of the way, I have owned both such vehicles you are in a pickle over. If it were me, I would just keep the s2k.

Not in all cases.
If you're paying out enough in collision and comprehensive insurances that you could easily buy a replacement bike with the money instead, then why bother with anything more than liability? Might as well just keep the money in savings and earn interest on it.
Now, if someone skips comp & collision but is unable to write off the bike either, then they simply cannot afford to own that motorcycle and are indeed an idiot.
Edit: After reading through the thread again, I noticed what you were getting at. Obviously the original poster can't afford to own an S2000 and probably shouldn't own one

Its worth having a car over a bike at times. Don't know your location, but if your back east your not riding in the snow, if your in the west you could pull it off 11.5 months out of the year.
I only ride on work days and take the car on the weekends with my girl. But for school the bike was SO MUCH DAMN EASIER to park, ride in and out.
Only bad part of having a honda and school is that people that steal cars, bikes and trucks don't care. They just take what ever is a good opportunity at the time

i have both and i wish i had something more practical than either one. the only thing i'm thankful for is gas mileage. essentially theyre the same thing... one passenger, a trunk the size of a backpack, and between tires and oil it will make up for the slight difference in gas mileage
Get a truck, an S10 with the "iron duke" is cheap as hell to maintain, 24mpg on the 5 speed, and still god forbid you need to tow a car, it will manage normal roads if your good at driving stick and got some cojones. Otherwise get a strait 6 or even heaven forbid gas guzzling v8 and tow your trailer to track days
I'm ditching my accord to go the truck/bike route. Going to start mowing lawns next summer so I'll have a trailer I'll be pulling weekly so I opted for the v8, and I got a great deal on a truck my dad got from work.
Anyway the truck/bike combo is nice as the truck has mad utility in towing and hauling stuff, especially with an extra half cab if you can get it. For fun sunny days, nothing beats the speed and thrill of the motorcycle. When pump prices are at their highest the motorcycle is in season, how convenient.
