I bought a can of R-134, is this the correct type to recharge the a/c?

It all depends.Has your car been retrofitted to R134a?If not,you need to run R12a.Check your fittings.If the fittings are big and have a blue and/or red caps then its R134a.If they are small and have black caps,then your set up for R12a.You car from Factory came with R12a.

Yep, small and black. I have a hose and can for 134, is there a fitting I can buy to adapt it? Or is it not that easy?

R12a and R134a run different PAG oils.The easiest thing for you to do is return the can you bought and buy a can or two of freeze12 and the install hose.Freeze12 will be colder anyways.Its compounds are more close to those of the original R12a.

If the car has quick connects on the service ports go ahead and use 134a
if it has screw types and they are both around the same size sorry man you got r12 and you need to retro fit

or use 2-60 air
