my buddy ordered a f22b engine/tranny from tigerjapanese. the problem is, his car is a 96 and im starting to think the motor is pre 96, being obd1. the reason i think this is, a few things are different. there is a harness plug coming out of the new tranny which we assumed is for overdrive, since his old motor/car(lx) did not have overdrive and also, he just called me and brought this to my attention, there is a plug coming out of the oilpump/tbelt area? but wait, i thought honda switched to the crank sensor in the oil pump when they went obd2, not obd1? wtf. im a b series guy, sorry.

also, the new motor has an internal coiled dizzy, where as his old motor has an external coil. we just assumed swap the dizzy and external coil over form the old motor, since the plugs are different anyway.


can anyone answer any of these questions?

96+ is OBDII

 

I don't know about the plug by the timing belt, but you can use the old dizzy and coil. If you want you can use the internal coil, you have to jumper two of the wires that went to the external coil, I think there's a writeup somewhere on here about how to do it.

I replaced the F22B2 in my 94 and everything was a direct swap except the external coil.

 

so what ive realized is, his old motor(obd2) is what had the crank sensor on the oil pump, the new one does not. so im hoping when i go back over there that there will be a place for me on the new(obd1) oil pump to swap over the ckp sensor.
