Rota boost?
Hey guys, I know most of you are jdmfanatics and hate rotas but im not gonna be stupid and spend that much to be considered in the Jdm'd out crowd... I currently have 16" black rota slips, Love em on my ep, but there is a good deal on some 17" rota boosts on cl right now with brand new tires. Anyone had them before? If so do they look good on an ep?
dude there are tons of pics like these in the pic thread. they may be the Work Emotion Cr Kai but they look almost exactly the same except the bradn name on the wheel. search around. check out ephatch.net

So you're worried about looks, but you're buying a knock-off wheel...doesn't really make sense, but whatever.
What's wrong with what you have? That too is a knock-off, but at least it is lighter and wider than the OEM wheel.

Did i once mention im worried about looks? I simply said that i found a good deal on a pair of boost. Ive had my rota slips for a while and i love them, but I wouldnt mind a change. So I was asking for people whove had these and what they think of them on an ep..As for being replicas. I honestly dont give a ****. I use my car for daily driving and I HATED the stock look of the ep, So I change it up a bit. Not going for proformance or id just buy a turbo kit instead of an overpriced pair of wheels

What are you asking, exactly? You can get the specs and see if they fit, but otherwise I'm lost for your question if you aren't asking about looks.

Ok so i asked if they looked ok on an ep. I was more looking for opinions on whether I should keep my current wheels and/or get the new ones. I kinda thought it would be apparent that thats what I was asking but guess I was wrong. And as for looks of the JDM ones compared to the knockoffs.. Your an idiot for buying JDM wheels just for looks/DD. For track/shows I can understand as for weight/build quality. As for looks, 95% of the people that see your car during DD dont wouldnt notice if you have JDM ones or knock-offs.
But sorry I wasted your forum space. Close this.

When you ask such a question, you're going to get opinions both ways. You know some people hate Rotas, and honestly--who can blame them?
They are knockoffs of a true JDM forged wheel. There is no R&D put into them and no original design. And many of them are too light for their own good and downright dangerous.
Other companies, like Enkei, have original designs, are priced fairly and built strong where they need to be.
Would you wear fake Nike shoes? That's basically what Rotas are. I dunno man, to each their own. But if it were my car, I'd skip the Rotas and run a nice looking OEM wheel or a nice looking original design of an aftermarket wheel.
I agree that in certain areas it is kinda silly to run a $2500 set of wheels, but there are original (and cheaper) alternatives in the aftermarket wheel world.
But to answer your original question, I would keep the current wheels you have. 16's are much more practial on an EP3 than 17's...unless you just want the bling. Because other than that, 17" wheels provide hardly any benefit over 16's (on that platform).
And there is a reason used Rotas are sometimes cheap, so buyer beware. Remember, good/expensive forged wheels usually bend (if impacted hard enough). Cheap cast wheels usually get hairline cracks that lead to ultimate failure (and the impact needed is much less than forged on a lightweight cast wheel).

I understand where your coming from with the overall lesser quality. But for daily driving. I really would rather pay $100 per wheel instead of $500 per wheel especially when a good set of tires cost a lot nowdays. And I can honestly say, if I had say a TL or an s2000 or something else I probly would shell out that 2 gs for some nice rays or something. But were talking a 9k ep. My mistake for not making myself clear on the question. Thanks for your advice tho todd

No kidding. Not to mention the crap you would have to go through if one got damaged. A Rota wheel could be replaced in less than a week. Most rare wheels need to be ordered and that takes time.
Ironically, My 92 Si got stolen for a set of slipstreams. LoL Im not kidding either. The tires were shot too. The theives should have waited a week because I was going to replace them.

The tires are $500 alone mounted.... How is it a bad price... Best I could find for the combo... If you can find better... let me know a friend might want to pick some up and we are talking brand new... no CRAP tires like most will have!

LOL. You just said cheap *** slips when you have "Cheap *** boosts." You paid more for your tires than rims bro. I love my cheap *** slips and my toyo's. They look nice and do the job just fine. Just sold the boosts that I picked up from when I started this thread. They look horrible on an ep3 first of all. And secondly, Even though I cant usually tell fake rims from real, The boosts are a horrible knockoff. I dont think ill ever buy 17" rims again for my ep. 16" ftw
