Default d16z6 or d16y8??

i was on the track yesterday..and i saw two civics.. one with a d16z6 with edelbrock supercharger. and the other civic with a stock d16y8 engine.. no mods on it.. but the y8 was faster than the z6 supercharger.. and i really got surprise!!

so what do you guys think.. cuz i'm biulting my 89 crx for the track but still does not decide which of both engines to choose..
really need an expert advice...

Now this is the track that i'm going to race.where nascar races. in california speedway but i'm in stock category.

by the way ,, is the time attack race that i'm into in...the only mod they will allow me to run is a supercharger or turbo...no nitrous, but the engine decision is killing me really. and also have to run with the same series engine.. any D series...

I beleive from the factory the Z6 motor is stronger all around Another thing you should consider is what tranny you will be wanting?si has short gear ratios(better when exiting turns etc) or a dx tranny with the longer gear ratios(better for the straightaways) good luck

so then what u are saying is that i should get a d16z6 and rebuilt it internally, make the head a litlle bit bigger and put some racing internals and boost it with a supercharger,, ok that. i understand.. but don't know about the tranny. cuz the guy of the d16z6 had a s20 tranny and i didn' t have the change to look under the tranny of the y8 guy.. which i saw he was really fast!!!

yeah i know subscription is only $ 600 for two days .. one day your training day and that includes your lap record computer data.. various races during the day!!
and if you qualify as one of the best time you get to the time attack challenge on the second day..

With a D series motor you will not be able to run a GSR transmission or a 99-00 Si

You have the Si/Ex from the 92-95 (D16Z6) to choose from also. I would stay away from the CX and VX. If you really want some help with setting up the perfect transmisison PM Bense, he is the king D trans, and probably more.

Z6 > Y8

Always.

Either the Y8 had something hidden that you weren't seeing (like heavy weight red), it had an excellent driver, the Z6 driver was very poor, or the Z6 wasn't running right.

Pick your poison as far as those 2 go, but go with the Z6.

an si transmission isn't that low geared, I know on an 88-91 si tranny they can go around 140mph to 150mph so you wouldn't have to swap the 5th gear out, they do give a better take off then the dx tranny though. The Dx tranny will have higher gear ratios through all gears, but if you wanna go with an eg tranny or an ek tranny you'll have to do the cable to hydro conversion on it, because you did say it was an 89 crx right. You can't take the B series internals and put in a d series tranny. Now for the motor the z6 would be a better motor, and you could put the y8 intake on it and give it a little more torque right off a bat, but then build the d-series and it would be a good running car with the si tranny on it.
