Default Cable speedo install issue

Ok, so im finishing up my b16 swap and i have to install the speedo cable. I have the speed sensor installed there but the cable going INTO it is what I have a question about. The end of the cable is slotted, and it fits one way into the speedo. then about a half inch up there is a silver slotted piece that im guessing needs to be fastened or something?

I am really confused on how that cable goes in and if I am missing a part. Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

This is the clip that fastens the cable to the speedo housing

-how cable is inserted

OK, sorry if i was a little vague.

I have the cable from the cluster, and at the end it has a metal piece with a notch (that goes into the VSS with the notch as i can see). On top of that cable, there is a thicker metal piece that fits almost perfectly snug in the hole on top of the hole that the cable went into. I dont see anywhere that that clip should go. That piece on top of the notched piece at the end of the cable has a slotted spot where a clip should go, but that part of the cable goes INTO the speedo hole and is hidden, unless i am doing this completely backwards or something.

Sorry. I'll take pics tomorrow if I didnt explain myself well enough.
