So here's the deal. A couple weeks ago, this kid hit me up offering to buy my 1994 Honda CBR F2 for $3,000. I lawl'd, and gave him my contact info just for the hell of it.
So he calls me this morning, asking if he can come by and check out the bike. I say sure, and two hours later he shows up with his Dad and an envelope full of cash
Needless to say...I'm in the market for a new bike.
So I found this 2002 GSX-R 600 with 9,068 miles, original owner too. It has a fully polished Yoshimura pipe, all matching original fairings, brand-new Dunlop Qualifiers (but from 2 years ago...details later), and an aftermarket gear setup (he said he went 6 teeth up on the rear sprocket) that I'm not a big fan of.
Anyways, he's got the stock pipe, mirrors, windscreen, etc...it just needs an upper fairing cowl from dumping it at 5mph on the brand-new tires. He was asking $3,600, but he'll do $3,000 cash if I pick it up tonight!

Not bad for a couple hours' work.

So what's the verdict? FTW or FTL?

i had a buddy who bought an 01 gsxr600 just like that but in better condition with all the parts for 2500. It had 3 times the miles but 2500 is 2500
try cheaper

of course it's a bad deal, it's a GSXR.
But in all seriousness, no, I'd offer 2500 cash and be prepared to walk away from it. Anyway you look at it, that bike was stunted and BEAT down. + 6 rear sprocket? sounds like someone learned how to do wheelies on it.

IMO, a 2001 (carb'd) GSX-R 600 with 27k for $2,500 < a 2002 (FI) GSX-R 600 with 9k miles

As long as the forks are straight, I don't see a problem
2 yrs ago I paid 4500 for a gsxr with a couple mods and with 2800 miles

I think you can find a complete on for your money. You can also add a little more money and buy a much better bike.

Well, I went ahead and bought it tonight for $3,000.
After test-riding it, and having my buddy (with almost 10 years of riding experience, and a K6 GSX-R 1000) ride it, we both agreed that it's in good shape and runs pretty well. The forks are straight, the chain could use some tension adjustment, and it's definitely due for an oil change.
I also picked up all the stock parts from the guy too - stock pipe, windscreen, mirrors, front and rear sprockets, etc...so it's just a matter of replacing the upper fairing, flushing the fluids and replacing the plugs!
You guys would be amazed at how inflated the Minnesota/Midwest market is, especially in the summer. There just aren't enough clean GSX-R's to go around anyway, due to all the stunnAzzzz and squids.
I probably could have negotiated a little bit, but overall I'm content with the choice I made. After all, I DID get $3,000 for my F2 earlier today!
I look forward to taking good care of this bike and hopefully doing a few trackdays next summer when I get more riding experience.

To all the people who say you could do better, I doubt it, I mean how much is that front fairing used. It's probably as good as you're going to get in the summer.
Drop 1k and he will be all set. New Tires, and what not.

A good used front fairing will run me ~$100-150 locally in the matching color scheme, and the tires are pretty much brand-new (even though the bike's sat for a while).

I'm normally not a big GSX-R fan, but I always did like that model for some reason...
2002 GSX-R 600 > 1994 CBR600F2 even if it does need a few parts.

That's true, I should be able to get it up and running/looking mint for ~$300 total.
On a total side note...holy CRAP was my F2 comfortable and flickable compared to this thing. Actually, now that I think about it the tire pressure was low on both tires on the ride home so that might have something to do with it. But my back started to hurt after about 10 minutes, due to the change in riding position.
Time to man up.

I've thought about it, but I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and hold onto this one for a couple years.
Unless someone offers me $4,500...

You never know. Most people aren't willing or able to do something as simple as sourcing and installing a fairing.
You've got nothing to loose by putting it for sale once you repair it, especially if you don't mind holding onto it.
