Default Camshft turns?

I have a b18b in my EG hatch and was replacing all gaskets, seals, etc etc. I was doing this to make it a reliable daily driver. When I came to about to remove moving the head I notice the exhuast camshaft moves when you turn it alone. I put it back together and it sounds like subbie. Took it apart again but I got tied up so I didn't get to change the head gasket so I put it back together and won't crank.

Is the camshaft most likely to move like that? This is the first time i'm doing this myself. I didn't think it suppost to move.

If valves are bent, i'm going LS/Vtec. Now has anyone had good remove from golden eagle vtec coversion?

ok, well when you turn a cam in the head it will spin.

its sounds like a subbie, have you check your compression?

Sorry im a noob, trying to learn here. When you take your wrench and turn the camchaft at the gear it will spin. It appears now i have no compression. I got fuel, spark, and everything. You being able to turn the camshaft is that normal?

LS engine are close to non-interfearance. But if you have no compression your valves are out of adjustment, cam timing wrong, bent valves.

I kind of figure bent valves, ehh.. I guess it's LS vtec time. I'm going take to a shop and take off the head then we'll see. My house don't have the right tools for timing.

check the valve lash. also checking the engines timing is easy. how did the engine get damaged?

As stated above, it sounds like your valve lash is wrong or your cam timing is off, either of which could possible lead to bent valves if you started and ran the engine like that.

Tested it out with timing at the correct point still nothing. Going to remove the head tuesday afterwork to see any valve damage. If so i'll post some pics but im going send it to a machine shop.

if theres not apparent visual(broke valve, shroomed valve) you going to have to take the valvetrain apart to inspect the valves fully.

BTW do you have your dizzy correct? all sensors right?

Ok lastnight I finally took my head off with a help from a mechanic buddy. All my exhaust valves are bent and 2 intake valves. We did the flashlight test and they weren't closed. Another is my block needs to be rehoned because the groves are gone and its completely smooth. So I'm replace the rings because it was wasting a lot of oil fast when I ran it hard. I also need a new radiator. That's basicly the reason, thank you guys for help.

I'm going pick up another b18b block and a gsr head soon for a turbo build. The motor in my hatch I want to keep it stock for reliabilty for daily driving.
