Redline MTL?
Have 3rd gen Prelude, track only (NASA Time Trials), with Acura Type R limited slip. Have been running Redline MTL, but getting a little chirp going into 5th. any suggestions for trans oil with limited slip? Thanks

I've used it in my heavily-tracked NSX, also used Honda MTF and plain ol' synthetic motor oil (which is also approved according to the manual), and didn't notice any difference among the three. Nowadays I stick with MTF.
I'm not sure what you mean when you mention "chirp", which is usually used to describe tires breaking loose. If you mean a crunching when upshifting, that's usually caused by the various transmission parts - hub selector(s), synchro(s), and if it's really bad, gear(s) - wearing down so their teeth are no longer nicely squared off. You can fix it by opening the transmission and replacing the worn parts, but that takes a lot of labor. I've heard some folks have reduced the severity of such symptoms by using "friction-modified synchromesh" fluid (I think it's marketed by GM and Pennzoil), but I've never tried it; when I've had crunch, I've had it fixed by opening up the tranny.

Redline MTF is ****....it was slowly tearing apart my tranny. Switched over to Synchromesh last week and problems are disappearing.
It is not a fix by any means to change oils like what I did, (this was the second time I changed to redline MTF, with only around 5k miles on this change) but it does help a lot.
My local mechanic who has driven the car for a few years now has noticed the difference and believes the redline mtf was actually ruining the tranny bearings...great.
Rebuild in the future, for now, the car gets OTHER oil.

I used redline mt90 on my old setup for over 75k miles. Changed the fluid every 15k miles. Did hpde events, etc. The tranny still shifted like new at 150k miles. Did not pop out of gear. Never grinded going into gear, etc.
I decided to try amsoil on my current setup. So far so good.

There was a discussion about this recently. Redline MTF/L/whatever was actually said BY REDLINE to NOT be used in a Honda tranny. Apparently it's lacking the friction modifier necessary for our synchros, and will damage things. I think MT90 was the preferred one.
After a quick search, yep, MT90 is the answer, and MTL is the lose.
