Default CAI question

ok, a freind of mine parted out his EP and i got a AEM CAI for completly free. Im wondering if its really worth putting it on. Ive heard alot about how their potentially more dangerous then actually effective. Please any info of this is greatly appreciated.

Its not likely unless you drive through a gigantic puddle without fender linings, or your actually submerge the filter. I'm not worried about my CAI and never have been.

People go one way or another about this. Usually takes a hydrolocked motor or enough stories for people to believe it can happen. My friend hydrolocked his motor with a CAI while it was pouring.

Just because there hasn't been a few that had this problem (which I highly doubt) during their ownership of a CAI, doesn't mean it isn't real. It is possible, it is a very real thing, and it can happen to anyone. Personally, I'd pick up a SRI instead for this reason.

Hydrolock is possible and very real. Here's an interesting thread you might want to read before you put that CAI on:

is there any way to use the stock intake elbow and use just the filter off a cai? It would be like a Sri then woulnt it? I have an AEM dryflow filter, is it possible or effective?

Since you got it for free.. Sell it, and buy a SRI.. way more safe and sounds the same.. I mean really, Your risking your ENGINE for a CAI... Common sense to me... with a SRI itll still give you a little extra on accelleration. Not very noticable but really CAI isnt going to give you much gain either. Buy a cheap SRI and call it good

There is an intake bypass valve if you are worried about hydrolocking.

I hydrolocked my engine on my accord and still used the V2 after that with no problem...just dont drive through any deep puddles and you will be fine( and if you have to engage the clutch when you do)...rain is not a problem...not to mention the CAI on the Rsx's don't sit as low to the ground as they do with the older Honda's
