Were you watching your temp gauge??? Was it overheating?

I would start by pressure testing the cooling system and see whatcha find.

If it's that bad, you should be able to see something

ur valve cover leaking wouldnt set the CEL off. lol. and the idle proble is most likely a vacuum leak. id have to look at ur car. cant really guess. make pictures or a video.

If your gauge is telling you it's not overheating and it appears to be running fine (by fine I mean no serious overheating during drive time) than I would guess a valve cover gasket. Make sure that their is no oil leaking on to your lower exhaust manifold (that may be where your smoke is truly coming from).

If it were a bad head gasket...you would know. You car would be smoking white smoke like it had emphizema.

White smoke---> Condensation problems i.e. bad head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block
Black Smoke---> Fuel system problems i.e. too much gas and not enough air
Blue Smoke---> Worn out engine

I hate over heating cars....bastards.

Ok, we'll, in all honesty I would have to say that your wierd idleing (rpm's wise) is directly related to your over heating. Your car could be running way too hot, stressing the motor way to much, and therefore causing bad idle. What I would recommend is doing a full coolent flush and if nessesary flush your oil as well. I ran into some OEM parts that needed to be replaced a while back and messed with my heating. I had terrible idle and the car wouldn't be able to go 2mins without completly over heating. I replaced my coolant and oil (extreme heat broke it down). After that, my baby was running better than before

ya look if you are getting any smoke out the exhaust first.

change your oil and see if any coolant comes out ( coolant will come out before the oil from the drain plug)

the weird idle i agree sounds like a vacuum leak.

the oil pan leaking is a very common problem, that is nothing to worry about as long as it is not leaving oil spots in your driveway. basically just check your oil level on like every other time you fuel your car(it is good practice anyway)

If your coolant was low, do yourself a favor, and find a friend that has a coolant system pressurizer, if it is an external leak it will show its ugly head with 15psi of pressure, but DON'T exceed 15psi, exceeding that could cause damage to your cooling system.
