Default Check engine light: tach not working.

I have a 1995 Accord V6 A/T. My check engine light is on. The tachometer isnt working either. Speedo does work fine though. So Im thinking the check engine light is on is because of the tach. What can I do?

Maybe the speed sensor (VSS) is faulty?

VSS registers the speedo and not the tach to my knowledge, find out what the CEL is for - probably another sensor and fix it.

With some searching, it seem like the ignition coil is causing this problem. Anyone know where the ignition coil is on the '95 accord v6? I read it's in the distributer. But when I opened to the distributer, there's nothing much that look a like an iginition coil.
Could the #6 in this part diagram the ignition coil?

Did you not find out what the CEL is for?

That will narrow down your problem tremendously. Just have it read for free at Advanced Auto

No I havent. There's no Advance Auto in Cali. I tried AutoZone but they said they can't do free scanning anymore. Something about dealership bitching to the Congress people, so now AutoZone arent allow to do free scanning.

Oh weaksauce.

Any Napa's ?

Without knowing the CEL light reason I wouldn't start throwing money at parts. Worst case is take it to honda for like their $15 diagnostic fee?

I think it's more like $35-45 for a dealership scan. That's probably why they were crying about it. ON the 95 Accord you can do the SCS connector short method to retrieve the diagnostic trouble codes yourself.

Here is a good thread that has a lot of good info about OBD trouble codes and diagnostics. Click Here!
