I have a '99 Accord and recently my car has been getting hot -- the temp. gauge rises pretty close to red. I think both fans are not turning on when they car gets hot. I don't believe it's the fans or their motors that are bad, cause both of them turn on when I turn the a/c on.

I took it to a local Honda dealer and he says the thermo fan switch is bad and needs to be replaced. I think it makes sense, but I was wondering what y'all think before I pay them $200 to fix it? He even suggested changing the thermostat for $100.

I am kindof hesistant in spending $200 for replacing the cooling fan switch, though, and was wondering if there's any place online where I can learn how to change it by myself?

I really appreciate any and all comments/suggestions.

 

Check the switch then. Unplug the connector and jump it with a paper clip or something, if the fan kicks on the switch is good. Gotta be sure its the switch before you start wasting money on parts.

Its the one in the very middle of the picture. (Gray connector, green, black wires)

I dont think that you can jump it with just a paper click since one of the cables in the connector read 12V in a VOM, still is a good idea to test it with a 12V supply that your sure is working.

EDIT: I just noticed this is really old but just in case someone needs some clarification... hope someone benefits from it.
