fog light wiring
ok so I have a 90 sedan and I got prelude foglights for it, my issue is hooking them up. Is it possible to wire them into the corner lights? If so, it's not going to overload anything is it? Now for the real kicker....how EXACTLY do I ground them...?
Thanks
Thanks
just go to your local auto parts store, autozone, advance, pepboys, whatever you have around you and pick up a foglight wiring kit. it will come with all your wires, fuse and a switch. hook up the lights according to the directions in the kit. and your done. you can ground to anywhere on the body as long as its steel or send the lines up to your other grounds located in the engine bay behind your headlights. i wouldn't try your corners unless you want them to indicate the direction you are turning. just get a kit an do it right.
ya, just get a kit for like 10-15 bux. it should include a relay and switch with it. you can also tap the "signal" for the relay to the running corner light if you don't want to use a switch in the cabin. the fogs will just turn on with your parking lights.
i just simple run the wires like so.
i made this in MS Paint :D . pictures shows for itself..i mean it works for me for about a year now and long with 5 other sedans that ive done it one..not a single problem. its hooked up to accessories on the fusebox to when the car is "on click" its able to be turned on. but off when car is off. the Ground that is on the Switch is if you decide to have a swtich that lights the interior. mine glows red. kinda goes with the theme inside my car.
materials: Fuse breaker with Fuse, wires, fogs, female wire connectors, electrical tape/shrink wrap/butt connectors, switch, wire cutter ehh..
simple ground the wire at the fogs to the chassis. make sure to sand the spot to bare metal for better connection. run the positive wire into the car through the hole above the hood latch wire or the wire hole itself. run it to one of the terminal on the switch and from the second terminal run it to a fuse breaker (i used 25) and the other terminal on the fuse breaker run another wire to the accessories.

my lude fogs on my sedan.

my cousin and I. 2 of 6 sedans with fogs

the only problem so far is the switch itself gets REALLY hot...any input on why it would do that?
Thanks!

I have a light switch too but it gets really hot...should I be worried about this?
And its hooked up to the battery.

Wow those foglights look straight fire, what year prelude they from? Was it hard to make fit? The switch is getting hot because you need a relay to power it up accordingly. buy a 5 prong relay for autozone, even bestbuy and c.city have them, talk to the installers theyll get u one. And wiring accordingly:
85-ground/
86- 12 output from your switch/
87- a power source such as acc or ignition/
87a- do not use/
30- use this to power up the foglights to positive side.
* wiring this way will definitly not make the switch get hot anymore, trust me and you can even wire up an oem switch and it will look hot afterward, youll thank me later, lol!

i didnt use any relay at all..mine doesnt get "hot"..just warm cause of the red light. i rather run of the acceossries on the fusebox so that way there isnt too many wires coming out of the engine bay (i got wire tuck and i'd like to keep it that way) ive ran it like the picture i post above with the wiring for about a year now and on 5 different cars (my cousins EFs) no a problem..
OP can you explain how you did the wiring? somewhere its causing it to heat the swtich and soon enough it might melt the switch..

I got a different switch, and the problem went away. The wires are still getting hot though...What cal wire did you use? Also, the foglights are yellow but different shades...one is brighter than the other. What would that mean?
It's wired just like yours only the power wire goes to the battery, not the fuse box.

the wires are getting hot because you are getting resistance in the wire. you need to check your grounds and your connections. See if there are any breaks in the wire. What gauge wire are you using?
18 i think...I'm gonna redo it all and use 14 cal. I noticed something though, the part inside the foglight that makes it yellow, isn't the same color. One is almost like an antifreeze yellow and the other is a dark yellow...so I guess that's why im getting two different colors.

i used some random *** wire and it works fine. i think its the same size as the foglight wires..
yea i notice one of my capsules are different color than the other (they are modded into my high beam) when its on, one is dull and one is bright (the golden capsule).

they are easy to change in the Fogs. heat them in up in oven and pry carefully opening them..push the capsule down and twist.
now what i did, i broke off that metal plate thats also in there so the fogs would be brighter..

then sprayed it :D

How exactly did you run it to the fuse box? Is there a way you can show like a picture how, or explain. Did you run a wire into your fuse box and attach it to a fuse? Thanks.

Sounds like your in the middle of the same project as me
Im just having a hell of the time hooking a OEM Civic switch with a relay, anyway atleast mine are all mounted up now

I have a extra set of Lude lights if anyone is looking for them for sale, hit me up IM

try to as helpful as i can.

1) you connect the black/red from the passenger fog to the driver fog.
2) i ground the black to the chassis, be sure to sand down to metal then ground.

3) run the positive wire into the car through either the hood cable hole or the one above it.
4) run the positive wire to the 2 way (on/off) switch. if you are using the light up 2 way switch, find a good ground for the 3rd terminal (should be label which is ground) be better if you found a ground source.

5) a fuse breaker, i used a 30 for this and it works fine. i used it at the wire that goes the fuse box if it would blow the fuse first (if anything) before the switch.

6) about top right corner/red wire..run the positive wire off the which with the fuse breaker to the accessories on the fuse box. the first 2, left to right, is for when the car is "on" position power would go through. the 3rd one is power all the time. i used the 1st one.

hope that helps.

i needa adjust my driver fog..

guys come on, why do u think a factory switch has so many wires and a relay, and why do aftermarket fog lights come with a relay. If your wires are getting hot u need the relay, all the switch should do is turn the relay on and connect the power source of the battery or wut ever ur getting it from with the positve side of the foglights. try it and let me know if the wires get hot!
the way i did it, none of my wires are hot. fogs, wires, switch, fuse breaker/fuse female connectors. thats all i used besides electrical tape and shrink wraps
