What happened?
I recently replaced my passenger's side drive shaft. Yesterday, as i was driving down the road, I heard a load noise that I can only describe as a "boing!" noise. I got under the car today and all I could see is the boot on the axle (the one near the knuckle). Below are two pictures I have taken; I apologize for the poor quality. If you look closely you can see that the boots appears to have shifted from its original position. There is a indented ring on the axle that is now visible; I do not remember this ring from before. I believe that the metal band is suppose to rest in the ring, but now it is not. What happened? Is the axle too short?
rockcity, it looks like the joint portion of the axle has shifted past its intended location.
there is a c-clip that holds the joint. im guessing its missing or just broken but cant tell until the boot is removed. if i were you i would remove the axle and return it or exchange it.
either way dont drive on it like that

WHAT?????
the joint is there and thats that they won't shift or move ,on the tranny side and at the spindle there's a tri-star with bearings covered by a dust boot/bellow
if it moves theres something seriously wrong with the cv shaft,or diff, maybe the tranny end wasn't in all the way
next time you have a thought ....just let it go

whats not to get, the joint can and will move if the c clip is not there or broken. also does it look like the axle has popped out of the transmission based on that picture.... no.
to the op replace that axle, i already suggested that
and was the "next time you have a thought just let it go" directed towards me?
