Auto-x track speeds never exceed 65mph (and only for short bursts), so the danger to you is pretty minimal.
Safety is the number one priority, but rollbars, cages, and harnesses are not a necessity to auto-x. If you go, even just to watch, you'll see that most people don't have that sort of equipment.
The basic requirements are driver's license, a car, and passing safety tech inspection. The rest is optional.
There are times where you can roll over a curb or smash into a tree other other objects, but if you drive within the car's and your limits, that should minimize the chances of that happening. That doesn't mean that it won't ever happen, b/c gravel and oil can find it's way on the course without making an announcement until you run over it at all the wrong angles.
If having a racing seat with harness makes you feel more safe and comfortable, get them. No questions asked. Money couldn't be better spent if it gives you peace of mind.

Yea and even if that happens but in most places where you auto-x trees and what not are not on teh track. Usually in large open parking lots.
