I need a new A/C compressor. **help**
So after thinking I had my a/c problem down to the root of the issue, I was wrong. I need a new compressor for my A/C system. The guy at the shop tried to tell me he had one in stock for 690 bucks. Yes, 690 bucks, hahahahah.
Needless to say, I am going to get my car from them this afternoon. I'm looking for a compressor now to just put on myself. I have found them on ebay for around 125-200 shipped. I have also found them used on here for around 40-75 bucks shipped.
Now on to my questions:
1. My car is a 2000 civic si, so what all a/c compressors are compatable with my car?
2. When buying a used one, what exactly do I need to look for, as far as leaks. etc.
3. I have also heard that a compressor can go bad if it is off of a car for too long, is this true?
4. You guys know of any reputable A/C compressor places that are priced fair?
Sorry for all the noob like questions, but help me get my a/c fixed.
It's [freak]ing hot outside.

you can use almost any 94-01 integra or 99-00 civic si compressor. If buying a used one just make sure the wheel spins freely. Most likely if its used, drain out the oil, and fill it back up with about 2oz of refrigerant oil. Should be good to go. Watch your o-rings when reinstalling it.
Check the manual, or go out and look at the compressor in your car. The manual for my 99 HX (supposed to be the same for 96-00, although I don't know if that includes SI) lists two different compressors, Sanden or Denso. Just make sure you get the same one that you've already got. I replaced mine with one I picked up at a junk yard and it's worked just fine.
More are compatible, but here are some of the cars ('01 and before) that take the exact same part number compressor as your 2000 Honda Civic Si.
