Default GSR 1-4 with LS 5th?

Ok got a situation on my hands. I have a LS trans in which in looking to put GSR 1st through 4th gears in with a LS 5th. My current LS trans needs the 1 and 2 sleeves replaced as well as 3 and 4 sleeves. I was told i could just replace the LS sleeves with new ones and the GSR gears would work fine... Now i called Gear Speed to order the sleeves and they tell me to use GSR sleeves as the diameter is different. Also they said i 'd need GSR shift forks as well(the ones inside the trans) Which is right? im lost when it comes to trannys... Thanks

order what they say, and search around here. Yes, this has been done before, btu if you're goign to go through the trouble, there are better gearsets to go with, not just gsr 1-4, unless you have those laying around or something. Just search, and ask knowledgeable people (there are soem sick tranny builders on h-t)

You can't replace 1st and 2nd gear without using the appropriate mainshaft. The 1st and 2nd gears on the mainshaft are integrated into the shaft.

If you can't use a GS-R 2nd gear, then you can't use a GS-R 1st-2nd synchro set either because the GS-R has a double-synchronized 2nd gear and the LS transmission doesn't.

just get gearspeed to do a full rebuild, I sent my trans that i tore apart (thought i could build it but i was wrong) and had gsr 1-4th gear, ls 5th installed, carbon coated sycros, new bearings, and seals and wav-trac lsd installed, had the trans back in a lil under 2 weeks... but i couldn't ask for better quality and customer service.

Well ls and gsr have the same 1 and 2 gears. U are going to need to buy a new 3rd gear shift fork. The diameter is different on the gsr 3rd verse the Ls. Just listen to what gearspeed tells u, they know what they are doing..
