Default 87 Accord LX-i starting problems

Okay heres the problem. My girl has an old, kinda beat up lx-i accord. so now its having problems starting, which at first i thought it was the alternator because it seemed it wasnt charging the battery. plus after i jumped the car and then removed the negative cable the car would die. so i figured it was the alt (plus the battery light was on).

so we pulled the alternator and took it to be tested at autozone. they tested it 3 times and it passed each time. we then pulled the battery and took it to autozone to be tested and charged. bettery was fine, so after a full charge and extensive cleaning of the battery terminals and the connections, put it back on. the car started on first try but the battery light stayed on. checking the output of the battery and the alternator while running, each read 12vs.

we drove the car around and had no problems for like two days, the battery light even went off. then as she pulled up to my house it died again.

what do you guys think it could be? a bad ground someplace or is the alt bad?

If your only getting 12v at the alt. with the car running I'd say it's bad. You should be getting 14-16v.

Here is the full test from the shop manual:

thanks

took the alt off again and had it tested at autozone...failed this time. got a new one, installed it and tried it out. was getting 14v with the car on...battery light went off too. then when my gf went to go home hours later, she was warming up her car and that bat light came back on and i check the battery with the car on and it was back to 12v....and the alt was at the same and then the battery slowly went to 11v then 10v. and the alt ran the same. so now what? wiring seems fine.

could it be the voltage regulator?? idk im lost.

I know that you probably already checked these. But most often its a loose or dirty connection to the battery. check harrness that goes to altenator for burned or scraped insulaton from rubbing on something and causeing a short.
