Default tach is way off

i have a 1990 honda prelude si 5spd and my problem is that the tach will read 2000 rpm at idle and will only move up to 2500 while driving barley moves at all. with key on engine off the tach will move up to aprox 800 rpm. any help would be great thanks.

make sure the tach is calibrated for a 4 cylinder...some tachs use chips for 4,6,and 8 cylinders

i had problem my tach when it wasnt revving right. i replaced my dizzy. sometimes the gears on the inside of the dizzy go bad.

I think it has to be a bad tach. No way that a distributor can do that.
