NHRA ANNOUNCES CATEGORIES WITHIN LUCAS SERIES AND SUMMIT SERIES FOR INTERESTED SPORT COMPACT RACERS
Interested sport compact racers can continue to compete in this season in the
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA Summit Racing Series
GLENDORA, Calif. (July 17, 2008) – On the heels of yesterday’s disappointing announcement by NOPI Motorsports regarding the cancellation of the remainder of the NOPI Drag Racing Series season, NHRA has outlined the classes in which sport compact racers can compete in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA Summit Racing Series.
Sport compact racers in the Pro RWD, Pro FWD, Modified and Hot Rod classes can compete in the Competition Eliminator category as of now. All Motor racers can compete in the Super Stock category effective January 1, 2009. Both categories are part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the premier Sportsman series in drag racing. Drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series compete for national and divisional championships and select categories are showcased at NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events as well as divisional events around the country.
Racers who competed in the Sport FWD, Sport RWD and Street Stock class, can continue to race within the NHRA Summit Racing Series. The NHRA Summit Racing Series features a bracket racing format that allows drivers to compete on an equal basis against each other. NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals are conducted in each of NHRA's seven divisions with winners moving on to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship held in conjunction with the NHRA POWERade season closer in Pomona.
Both NHRA series are conducted at NHRA member tracks around the country. Sport compact competitors are encouraged to log on to http://www.nhra.com to obtain more information on upcoming races in their area.

Thanks G man. I loved NHRA SC when it first started all the way to the Merger. I am happy to see the new classes and I wish lots of luck to those who attend and compete. As for me. I am tired and will not get bitten a 3rd time. I think our sport is spread too thin right now. I just want to see the SC industry better more than I want to race so I pass. I personally will only Support Boti and local IFO. This is my opinion only and not a stab at NHRA. I absolutely love the Full Throttle series. (just ask my DVR). its bad enough to see our pro racers fulfilling obligations at other none SC events. all to keep sponsors happy and not loose the little sponsors they currently have. I have never been to a battle event so I have not ties to them Just to Sports compact racing in general.

I'd like to say thank you Gary for the update and the interest in SC racing.
For those of you who don't like bracket racing, please email NHRA and ask them to please come up with a class your cars can fit into.
IMO you, the unhappy racer, venting here is going to do no good.

Entry for all National Events will require grade points. Grade points can be earned by attending a Lucas Oil Divisional event or National Open. Please refer to your respective divisional website through NHRA.com for scheduled events. Please feel free to contact your respective divisional office or NHRA for more information.

This is awesome news for import racers. National events with large crowds and a chance to win a "Wally". Who do you think will be the first import racer to win a national event in Comp?

Lets see, who runs a Lucas Oil sponsored car...Power Aid wouldn't be very happy if a Red Bull won...

i already have friends of mine calling me and say when are you coming to invade us in the comp. i can already see tran running a 7.90 on a 8.60 index and them crying foul. then the index will get wacked over and over again and the grassroots h/r car running 8.90 never making a field.
Robbie Hudlow has my vote if RaceRedi gets the Lexus back out in Comp again
Several 'sport compact' cars have competed in Comp
Bruno Massell in the Cobalt and Celica
John Haley in the Civic
John Mihovetz in the Cougar
Robbie Hudlow in the Lexus
Scott Kelley in the Toyota
Thomas Shambaugh in the Cavalier

This is awesome news for import racers. National events with large crowds and a chance to win a "Wally". Who do you think will be the first import racer to win a national event in Comp? . Have you ever been to a DIV race . These are three day events , with a TNT on Thur . If you don't do the TNT most of the time you well only get two>2< Q/T for the week end . It's kinda funny NHRA is now all happy to step up and let you run with them . Do the Summit series it cheaper alot closer to home . I you can't aford to travel DIV will not be for you . Oh one more thing getting your ride through tech well not be like going to a local TNT .
Not to rain on your parade but you have to show up on Tuesday and race on wed and Thurs. The spectators don't show up until Saturday and Sunday. If you are in the finals you get to race on Sunday.
Still would be hard to get sponosrs racing this way.

it would be cool to be able to do index racing at my local nhra track... i hope they create a good class for turbo hondas
Um I am not 100% sure, but isnt Comp and Super Stock a glorified bracket class where they stick cars that don't fit in or can't compete with the heads up classes. And the Sport Guys well yeah thats just brackets...
Any competitors with Technical or Event schedule related questions, should really contact NHRA directly. This description of an NHRA event schedule is inacurate.
