Default 2.5" Carsound Cat(94006)...YES/NO Answer

Is the 2.5" 94006 Carsound bolt-on cat (available through the likes of R&D, IPS, and SMSP) the EXACT same length as the stock Type-R cat? TIA

No. THe could make it that way if you asked. But they typically make them shorter to accomodate the longer JDM style header.

They should be, but each company is making/or has someone welding flanges on a universal cat. Should bolt right in without a problem. Call one of them if you have any concerns.

I say yes, just tell them what you got and they will weld the flanges accordingly

the carsound "bolt on cat" is being made for JDM headers. YOu can easily order any length he needs but as he worded the question no the one they are mass making it will be too short. all they have to di is make the pipe length longer . .

All the universal cats just come with 2", 2-1/4", 2-1/2" or 3" ID nipples on each end. Floating flanges are installed, flared tubing and 3 bolt flanges are welded on to a specific cat for a certain type of header and cat length. I use 94006 cats for the longer OBDI applications, 94066 for longer OBDII, 94106 for short OBDI and 94166 for short OBDII applications.

Just to rephrase the question a little better...

Should the 2.5" Carsound Cat(94006) be the same length as the stock Type-R cat if I'm bolting it to a JDM style header (ie. OEM JDM 4-1, Toda, Spoon) and stock Type-R catback exhaust?

No, it won't be the same as the stock Type R cat. If you have a JDM header and stock ITR catback, you will need a "JDM-sized" cat, which is a couple inches shorter than the stock ITR cat. I say just contact one of the vendors on the board and tell them your setup...they will make sure it bolts right up.

Is the O2 bung welded on by you or is it shipped to you with the bung pre-installed?

The bung hole is there. It's as bolt-on as you can get.

I was under the impression that the stock header were the same length as the JDM style headers. Can someone confirm this?

On the 94166 and 94066 the bungs come already welded in the body of the cat.

CPR-

When using a JDM header and USDM exhaust, the 2-1/2" cat will need to be shorter than the stock cat by about 3/4" - 1".
