b18c1 smoking after high rev's
I have a b18c1 with comp test of 190 across on all cylinders. car runs strong only smokes when its reved high them white / bluish color comes from the exhasut . does not over heat nor is the oil mixing with water. I do have compressed air coming from my oil filler cap when oil cap is off a good amount of air flows out like blow by (when car is running). my pcv is clean and working with small signs of oil nothing major. i looked in the canister where the pcv goes into and there is no oil build up. when driving on hard pulls the motor does smoke a light bluish color (oil). but on a regular drive no smoke is visible, nor does it smoke at idle no oil deposit coming from exhaust .
I did replace rings and had block checked and honed (standard size)
my oil is a little high about 1/4 inch from the full line.
any advice would help

my friend's jdm type r motor does that too. never smokes on startup or when just driving around, but it seems every time you hit vtec and take it to the higher revs on a hard pull it starts putting out blue (oil we assume) smoke and it puts out an even bigger cloud of the stuff when you let off. also it may be our imagination but we both think the car feels a bit down on power, but that may be unrelated (he is planning on getting it tuned with a hondata or something) . we were trying to figure out why it does this so if anyone has any insight it would help two cars

actually he bought the car that way, so anything is possible. i was just wondering if anybody had some insight into what the problem actually is so it can get fixed, my first thought was rings or head gasket, but in the first post in this thread, ek says that he put new rings in and had the block honed, and i assume that he used a new head gasket when he put the engine back together, so those seem covered
also you mentioned that blue smoke is a common thing. any idea what breaks in there to cause the problem? any help would be appreciated

did you orient the rings on the pistons in the correct position during assembly?
also what rings did you use? what was the specs on the cylinder walls. if they was close to the max on taper, roundness then you may burn a little oil

YES yes this motor is a stock rebuild, block crank and pistons were check at a well respected race shop where i live. the owner even check the block himself and told me that all it needed was a hone, that there was no need to punch 9bore) the block. he told me to buy standard size rings. I bought perfect circle from napa. and all clearances were check so were the mains and rod bearings replaced followed with new thrust washers.
I installed new gaskets water pump timing belt etc..
the only thing i left alone was the cylinder head. I really didnt think about it since i check it over and look ok, maybe i was wrong,.
I did remove my spark plugs and number 1 plug was black and the number 2 cylinder plug wasnt as bad the rest looked good. When i check the head ( this was before my engine was put back together) cylinder 1 exhaust valves had carbon build up and super black...I knew i should of did something about it damn , because maybe that could be one of my problems. I would settle for bad vale seals maybe or bad valves, haha because i dont want to take the motor out again.

i did a leak down test and the only place the air was escaping was from the valve cover oil cap whole and the oil dip stick whole,, so im assuming the air is escaping via the rings
Im thinking since the block was already smoking a maybe bad rings , and then i got it honed kind of open the bore out a bit and now its leaking through the rings... So what im gonna do it BORE THAT BIT#CH .020 over and go with type R pistons. and while i have the head out port that BIT@H and get it check and replace what is needed.
I have taken 2 of these engines apart for rebuils , both had good compression 190-200 psi , but both smoked when VTEC crossed. I found the oil rings gummed up and sticking in the pistons. I could hardly grap them to get them off. I rebuilt both 1 was bored to 81.50 the other left standard , neither smoke after new rings that moved freely. i have only had this problem with B18C1's

are they OEM pistons and rings or aftermarket?
