brake problems.... any suggestions???
I have a 92 civici hatch with rear disk brakes. I recently changed the rotors, pads, and the lines to stainless steel brake lines. But the problem I'm having now is that when i hit the brakes the pedal will stop but slowly start going down until it hits the floor. I have bleed the brakes more than once and I can't figure out whats going on. Has anyone ever had a problem like this, perhaps could it be the brake booster? Does anyone know? oh yeah if your wondering there are no leaks at the piston, brake lines, or the connections. thanks for the help.
I will be re-bleeding the brake lines tomorrow. I was given the suggestion on trying to bleed them while the car is on. Have you heard of this or tried this? Thanks for the help Teken.
Hey Teken, thanks for all the help with the brakes. Turns out that there was air in the brake lines. When I performed the bleeding I had the key turned in the acc position (one more turn and the car would be on). I was told it helps with the brakes. After bleeding them in the order RL --> FR --> RR --> FL and the car stops on the dime. Thanks again.
When using SpeedBleeders, be sure NOT to press the brake pedal all the way to the floor, as this will accelerate the deterioration of your master cylinder seals. I suggest you press the brake pedal no more than 1/3 to 1/2 way to the floor when bleeding the brakes with SpeedBleeders.
From what you are telling us about the pedal slowly going to the floor - essentially, your hydraulic system not holding pressure - this sounds like a classic blown master cylinder. It is possible for the internal seals in the MC to rupture, such that your fluid level will stay the same, and you will not be able to find any external leaks. What you are describing are tell-tale signs of a MC going down hill.
