Default coupe, or sedan

Hi all, I am about to purchase an Accord, and would like some input as to which would be a better choice for me. I am 48yo, and have wife, and 2 teenagers. The car would be primarily for me, but would also be used for the family. I am older, but not an old guy. I have a muscle car, and a motorcycle ( Honda ST1100) I am able to turn a wrench, and have done my own work for years.

One car is a 2002EX Sedan, with 6 cyl, Auto, and 85K.

The other car is a 2001EX Coupe, with 4 cyl vtec. and 5 speed manual, and 60K. The car has been lowered 1 1/2", cold air intake, and cat back exhaust. I don't need any of these mods, but must admit I like the look of the exhaust tips. I do have concerns that the car may have been driven hard with these changes though.

I also have concerns about the auto transmission on the sedan. I have read that there are issues with transmission. I know that the car has been well maintained, and has no problem at this time.
Would I be right in thinking that if I change the fluid regularly, and maybe add a cooler, that I will be ok ?????? or is that just wishful thinking.

Both cars are priced about the same, so that is not a factor.

Any, and all opinions would be appreciated.

Get the coupe if the car will only be used by you. I personally have the four door and love it, but the coupe is sportier. It's really just a matter of taste.

I would defiantly get the coupe. The only thing better in the sedan is the V6 and the vtec should just about make up for that.

I've always preferred Sedans over Coupes.

Personally, I would probably stay away from the 6th gen V6 autos. Too many problems for me to want to chance I think.

But I have the same concerns as yours about the Coupe being that is has some mods done and I generally like to buy un-modified cars. Thats not to say you cant get a modified car that hasn't been driven hard and is in good shape.

I guess I would lean towards the Couple simply because of the V6 auto in the Sedan. Talk to the owner of the Coupe and see how you feel, if you thinks it's been driven hard and/or not maintained well.

But I think the Coupe would get old quickly if it's being used as a family car and you have to have the kids climbing in and out of the back seat.

Kind of a tough choice I guess. If you feel the Sedan has been well maintained and ultimately don't mind getting into tranny fixes if that were to happen then get that one. If you don't mind the climbing in/out of the back seat and you feel the Coupe is in good shape even though it has mods leading you to believe it was driven harder, then get that one.

Ultimately, do not get the V6. Eliminate it. For the coupe, figure out if you can live with a coupe or not. The mods does add a negative to it, but with 60k miles, I think you should be pretty decent. Having an exhaust does prompt even an average drive to press the pedal even a little bit more to get a smile on your face from a growl, so I can almost guarantee that it was driven a little bit harder. I would take the risk though, because with 60k miles, you should still have enough life left in it for it to be worth it, as long as it was not a young dumb kid. You still have to figure out if you can live with a coupe though.

like what everyone has said, avoid the V6. More mechanical problems all around, not to mention the weak trannys in our generation of Accords.

I love my coupe 4cyl. Lowered about the same. Intake. Exhaust. That should be more than enough power. You are lucky to get your hands on a 5spd with that little miles.

Go with your gut.

haha... be concerned no more my friend! This car WAS NOT pampered! Even if it had not had any mods, the owner could still have "beaten" this car up a little bit, and you would never think, because the car was stock. At least with the mods, you know it was, hopefully driven with a descent behavior of the driver.
As for the car having 60K miles, jeeeezzz... what are you waiting for.... 5 speed is fun and gets you better gas mileage.. this car has another 140k miles to go without getting you frustrated!

its up to u man. just think how u gonna look in the car. do u wanna get out of a 4door nice looking car, or roll up in a dropped coupe. i think u would be happier with v6. but to me, id take that L4 all day long. own a 98 sedan , swapped the F23A1 for a H22A TypeS SH loving it.

Completely ignoring the fact the V6's have horrible transmissions your logic is absolutely amazing.
