91 crx si...worth fixing?
Aight guys heres the story in a nutshell....A buddy of mine had this crx, during his time of owning the car it got stolen, involved in a rock slide, clutch went out, and the head gasket started leaking. So he decieded to give the crx up...thats where I came in! I picked this car up for the low low price of FREE! Now I must admit it IS alittle ruff. AND during all this he choose to junk the title on the car(which I think the DMV can fix this)...but man I remember this car before all that bad stuff happened. It was once a sharp rex.
So heres the deal, I was going to use the car just for parts. Use it to fix up my Si and sell the rest. But after bringing it home and putting a new battery in the car, it started right up! Idled good, A/C worked, everything seemed to work good. Now I didnt try to drive it because I knew the headgasket was bad. I was pretty shocked really considering the car hasnt moved for about 2 years now.
Ok, now heres where I look to honda-tech to help me in my decision. I have done my research and a new clutch(exedy OEM) would run my about 90 shipped on ebay. The headgasket set was 120 at advanced auto parts. Thats 200 bucks....all it needs. Soooo honda-tech should I bring her back to life? Use it as a MPG car, drive the wheels off it....or should I part her out like I originally planned and take her to the scrape yard?
While you are thinking on your decision on wiether this car should live to see another day, heres some pictures!!!!
Start with the interior...which is in perfect shape. Mint seats/dash...

Motor shot...bone stock

Its good side

Rear and top(sunroof works)

Now onto the ugly side. This is where the rock slide hit the car. The inner fenders are not damaged. The A arm has been hit to. Nothing that is not fixable.

Heres alittle extra pic of the 2 cars together in the garage!

So what do you guys think...her fate is in your hands HT. Go easy on her....

thats a rough body but who cares if its a daily driver as long as it gets 30/40+ to the gallon who cares what it looks like. gas is ridiculas. i wish i would have never swapped my motor. i miss 38mpgs
I watched your build...so I know you can fix it. You could get a patch panel for that rear quarter. Fenders are still available. I mean for 200 running, you can get it looking good as the $$ comes in. SAVE it....I just got threw helpin someone save a EF hatch that was smashed in the front (core support & all).

x2
Plus you can't imagine the 'relationship' (for lack of a better word) you get with a vehicle when you do a frame out job on it. It takes up a chapter of your life.... seriously.

Well I just ordered my OEM Exedy clutch from ebay($91.00) and I am getting ready to go pick up the head gasket set from advance ($116.00).
That will make my running total of- $207.00.
Now lets just hope there are no more problems...no its time to head off to the DMV to see what I can do about this junk title deal!

Why you say that?
Why you say that?
you picked it up for free, part it out/sell it and make money!!! instead of spending money on a new clutch, head gasket, body work(rust), insurance, any other unexpected expenses.... it's an addicting hobby it'll never end and you'll never be satisfied til one day you get it how you want it, then some low life thief will steal it.
in a perfect world keep it.... unfortunately we don't live in one... so my advice part it out.. one less worry, one less headache.... either way you got it for free so it's a win win situation...

Fix it. You know you want too. Nothing beats the satisfaction of knowing you made something "beautiful" with your own 2 hands.
Maybe $350 for Qtr panel, door and a pair of fenders
Another $350 for mechanicals(head gasket, tune up stuff, fluids, etc..)
Around $350 worth of PPG Omni paints, primers, sealers, tape and paper
Less than $1100 for another clean good running CRX. Besides you could sell it after for a profit.

Wouldn't be much of a profit after all the time spent of replacing the HG, fixing all the body and painting... however I would totally rock it as is or fix it; she looks like she's begging for it.
If you wouldn't I'd suggest finding someone that would (I has sunroof envy).
PS - how's that ebay steering wheel holding up?
