2002 S2000 23k miles for $8000... clean Carfax, title in hand... is this a scam?
Hello-
I am in the market for an S2k and found one on the mid-Atlantic online ads... I sent the seller an email, and got a response. The response stated that the seller was in the Air Force, and currently in Iraq.
The asking price is $8000, including transport from United Road Auto Transport... supposedly based in the US. The Carfax shows the last location in Ontario as of 06/30.
I do not yet know where the car is currently (awaiting response) but this seems like too good of a deal to be true. I also received pictures, showing the car and the VIN number.
Is this a common scam that I haven't heard of yet? Could this be just a desperate person trying to sell the car (or perhaps their divorced wife's
) while on duty?
Thanks in advance, I will update with new info

Yes, it's a scam. There's a bunch of different cars on craigslist that are listed that way. It gives vehicle pictures, descriptions, VIN info, and mentions that they know the price is low.
If it's not a scam, you're damn lucky.
I've come across a hybrid accord listed as if it was in one place, but the owner states it's overseas. I also came across a my00 s2k that was listed as in florida, but was in england. Both sellers stated military, low prices, pictures, VIN info, and shipping included. Needless to say, I entertained my boredom, but wasn't biting.

Yes trust me... if I can't see it, I am definitely not interested. I was curious how much I should get my hopes up.
Haha so do these people just steal other people's VINs and pictures and pretend they are legit? If this falls through, should I pursue the sale and get the account to report?
Does Gmail log IPs? Lets see if this person is reallly overseas.

why you even consider buying a used car without driving one, hell i wouldn't even go to the dealer to buy a new car without testing the one out.
the seller must be on crack for something like this, he would have to pay about 900 buck to ship the car to you, i am surprise a clean title s2k at 8000 buck last long in a local car selling ads.

so the car's in ontario canada (out of the united states) and the owner is in iraq (again, out of the USA). it sounds sketchy, stay away from it!

Believe me, I held very little validity to the ad I found online. I am curious to his response however...
I replied to one listed in Orlando once. It was funny, the pics were obviously of an S in a northern climate.....but it was listed as being in Orlando. So I emailed saying I wanted to go look at it, and they said the car was ready to be shipped out of illinois. So I emailed back saying I'd like to fly up and look at it to drive it home, and my personal mechanic would fly up to check it out, and I never got a response.
it was a chinese email address. lol.

It's a scam, seen it tons of times on autotrader and ebay. Tell him you want to look at the car in person before buying. If he cannot arrange it, then it's a scam.

WOW, that's a nice deal. Depending of course on what all had to be replaced and how well they did on repairing it.
