Is there such a thing as a transmission control module (TCM) for a 1996 Accord with an automatic transmission? I have seen older models with an engine control module (ECM)and the transmission control module mounted right with it, but I am not so sure about a 1996 Accord.

If there is a separate box, where is it? Or is it internal to the ECM?

It's integrated into the ECU.
