I have a 1993 Honda Accord DX. For at least the last 5 years, my steering wheel shakes badly when the engine idles. The Honda mechanics have not been able to solve the mystery. My concern is safety. Could the vibration have sometime to do with the tie rods? Help, please.

 

If the engine is in proper tune a vibration when idling is usually a bad motor mount.

 

I have the same problem in my 1990 accord lx. The steering wheel also shakes while going in reverse.

 

if your feel a strong vibration only when car is in reverse, get the engine mounts checked out...

 

dont worry guys, mine shakes a bit too when it is in reverse and when idling a little, no big deal, i think all older model accords do that.. nothing to worry about unless you want to make it feel like a brand new accord.

 

if u shift into neutral and slowly gas it to a slightly higher RPM, does it still vibrate? Maybe your idle could be raised to fix it.

 

Bushings possibly.
