Default yup, another DIY Homemade ITB post.

here we go another set of homemade throttle bodies. I hope to be a little different with this project. Not many Honda enthusiasts in my area have ITB's. Plus I always liked high RPM screamer engines. So these will add a nice element to my soon to be swapped LS-VTEC with 12.0:1 CR.

I'm going away from the traditional vacuum manifold. I think it's a waste of time and money (if you have to buy one). IMO there's no reason why the plumbing can't all be done on the manifold itself. This saves clutter and hoses hanging everywhere. The plumbing will end up on the underside of these so it'll be clean on top. These arn't finished yet, so bare with me. I still have to plumb in the MAP, setup the IAT sensor and a few other things.

I picked up the 954 throttle bodies off ebay for $37.15 CAD and the hardware store bits (including the rubber couplings intended for ABS piping) for about $25.00. I gave the welder 16 cans of Guinness... and he provided the aluminum pipes!

I don't know what kind of extra WHP these will gain me. Some people on here say they get like 15 or 20 WHP from homemade ITB's. But I think I'll shoot for a more realistic 5 WHP... maybe.

I'll post the pics of the construction and my motor when I find my other camera.

In too see how they work without a vacuum log.

right so i took some more photos for those of you who are interested. after looking at the photos i concluded that i took them with the camera on an angle. because of this it looks like some of the tubes are on a wicked angle, but rest assured... they line up quite nicely.

the two on the right side are somewhat off, but only by a few mm or so. no biggy. i guess i could port out the pipes to make a nice smooth path, but i'm not worried about it.

i even included a photo of my lap... i'm sure my my wife will be confused.

they'll be done in a week or so... stay tuned.

looks cool. What did you just cut a factory manifold and weld to it ?

What size are the tubes that were welded ?

yeah it was a b16 manifold. i cut it off just before the injector tabs because im going to use my stock injector location. i'm not convinced that i could use the cbr injector location and benefit from it.

if they were engineered throttle bodies i could see that location being a gain, but not here.

the tubes are 50mm OD.

I think using the stock injector placement is the right idea.
I actually drilled out the holes on my TWMs in order to move the injectors to the factory location and then welded the intended spot closed.

2 questions -
It may be my eyes deceiving me , but are the runners tapered at all? On the side shot they look like they get smaller closer to the flange.

Where the top ITB meet the bottom runners, Inside the rubber coupling, does the metal meet each other?
Basically what I am getting at is that if you have the top mounted and then it opens up in the coupling, if the metal does not meet each other directly then you may have a little turbulence. The air goes through the throttle plates, opens in the rubber cuppling and then hits the outside of the bottom runners. If they dont meet perfectly inside the coupling you may not have the smoothest airflow. . .

Just an idea to think about . . .

I always though fuel would atomize better if the injector was moved up into the runner.

In his first post he mentions 954 throttle bodies. so I would assume he means the Honda CBR 954 Fireblade....

yes the TB's are from a Honda CBR 954. The manifold was a factory b16 item, until I chopped it.

CBR 954 TB's

the belt is a Moosehead product. The picture of my waist area is the result of an inside joke between user Clem Kevin and I.
