Default Prelude wont turn over from time to time

hey eveyone, just got a 92 prelude 2.2. sometimes when i start it up it wont turn over, i hear it cranking but it just wont start the engine. this happens sometimes when its pretty warm too. i would stop real quick and come bak and turn it back on but it just wont turn over, i have to give it a couple tries, and it finally does.

then it would turn over and i would hear the exhaust rumble and it wouldnt hold the idle and die. So when it does turn over i give it gas and then its good.

this only happens time to time and has happens randomly

What could be the reason for this? it needs a speed sensor replaced if that has anything to do with it(speedometer wont tell the speed.)

The last owner did say he left it sitting for awhile.

I would check out the distributor, take off the cap and clean the contact points inside as well as the rotor. Use a wire brush or a small file, just enough to get any build up off.

If that doesn't help, you might want to do some tests on your coil and igniter unit inside the distributor the next time it doesn't start.

If it's heat related it could be the main relay (fuel relay). You can resolder the relay contacts or get a new one. Do an archive search here for main relay and get the pics.

Yeah sounds like a main relay to me, resolder should do the trick, took me like 20 minutes. I leave the case bolted in under the dash, and just pop the insides out.
