Default California Highway 1 (LA to SF)

Anyone done this ride?
Planning on taking a road trip to SF via I-5 in august and I never taken any other freeway.
It adds almost 3 hours to my trip but is it worth it? Going with my girlfriend.

You better make it a day trip with planned stops. Also, if you are doing it on a weekend, plan on it being even longer as some sections can slow down quite a bit

are you going I-5 or hwy1?
Took I-5 from Monteray to sacramento after motogp a few years back. Worst ride of my life. Save your sanity and take hwy 1. That would be a kick *** ride.

hwy 5 is no where near monterey. Did you take 156 to 152 to 5?

I rode from Santa Cruz to SF then North until it ended. Definitely an awesome road. I was surprised how good people were about using the turnouts when they were slowing us down. It was also pretty chilly.

Assuming all sections of the road are open, it is a beautiful ride that everyone should make at least once in their life. The section between Moro Bay and Big Sur = beautiful.

Be prepared to pay for the most expensive gas in the nation on that section of road (probably $6.00/gallon).

I remember gas was 4.99 when gas anywhere else was about 250
