hey guys, need some opinions.
my engine has CTR cams and I have been running them for a
while now adjusting them running it hard to 8100 every damn day...
etc etc. my bottom end is healthy, my valves are reset .007, .008
to spec perfect and the timing belt is tensioned just right. the damn
thing is as quiet as a mouse at idle... very stable exhaust note.
I just cant seem to pinpoint the rattle in my engine above 2500.
I have no lights, no CEL, no oil pressure light etc. When I am looking
at the valve cover and raise the engine speed, it seems to be resonating
from the intake side of the motor in the middle of the engine. I cant
help but think that this is lost motion assemblies that decided to stop
working... any ideas?

Are you knocking???
New cams huh? Did you set your timing correctly?
I would not drive it hard until you find out... unless you like holes in your pistons.

no, I dont want holes in my pistons.
here is some more background...
CTR cams
cam bearing surfaces tqed to spec 20ftlbs on 12mms, 8ft/lbs on 10mms
bearing caps installed properly
timing belt is tensioned properly
valve lashes are set 007 on intake 008 on exhaust, checked
with larger size also to make sure they are correct. adjusted
BONE COLD.
16BTDC
0,0 on gears
been on cams since 36k I am at 49500
stock ignition with NGK wires and Bosch plugs
no knock at idle, only after 2200/2500rpm through the
revband, engine mutes it after 5700.
directly after shutoff, the oil is at 4+qts.
this condition developed wed night after I adjusted my
valves in the morning when somewhat warm. I GOT LAZY.
I now estimate the valves were too tight on the cam and damaged
the LMAs due to more lift at the valves. The condition came on
slowly over the span of the day as I ran the car. Now,
after resetting everything to factory spec... it is apparant
that I damaged something for sure.
again, it is a tapping/knocking sound resonating from the head
after 2500 rpm under acceleration. if I drive the car at different
throttle angles, it doesnt change the behaviour. Sometimes
VTEC is intermittant as well.
about 8K ago, I bent valves so I had to reinstall everything. I
misread the book and installed the cams to 28ft/lbs on the 12mms
and hand tqed the 10mms. The intake cam seized at idle at BDC
not interferring with any valves... thank GOD. We removed the cams
and took emery paper and cleaned the caps and cam journals and
head... plastiqagued and reinstalled within factory spec. there was a
knock in the motor but it was much much heavier and at idle, throught
and would get quieter as it revved due to the heavier friction at idle.
I have seen a few things go wrong and this is something different.
What is the likelyhood that my current issue is due to the LMAs?
