I've always been curious as to why the new Renesis motor is unreliable. I was under the impression that Mazda worked out the shortcomings from the old 13B and found a little bit of horsepower compared to the 13B in the FD sans twin turbos?
And why did Mazda decide to go NA with this car?

Not exactly I've had mine since May of 2006 and its had no engine problems or flooding. I drive the **** out of it too and it goes on Nurburgring every other month for 4 to 6 laps of pure hell.

Thats actually kind of the secret to keeping them on the road. Driving the living **** out of them. Gets all the fuel burned and prevents the rotor housings from getting carbon-ed up. Most people don't drive them up to 9K enough and the automatic ones are even worse because those drivers are typically even more easy on the motor!

I know so far the states has extended the warranty for them to 8 years/ 100,000 miles and Mazda Europe has not since I was told by my dealer when I bought the car to take the car to 9k once per day.

i wanted one of these so bad. My first car was an 89 GXL non turbo. But i didnt want to spend good money and need instructions on how to turn it on and off.

I have heard about somethings about Mazda North American cars being junk but I know of at least 6 RX8's right around where I live that have had no problems with the car since we actually drive the car above 55 mph everywhere. I know when I move back to the states I'm going to try to bring mine back, instead of buying a US model.
BTW.... Nice Pics

shop around i got mine with 60k miles for $13k
not at all fast in a stright line but ive done some autox/track days with it. awesome car in that type of setup i hate it as a daily no tq and you have to check oil alot and it waste alot of gas. but on a track it makes up for it.
