well after around 18 years, I think my stock radiator is going fast. it has a crack on the top tank, and is bubbling out, but its still keeping it cool according to the temp gauge? so i'm thinking about upgrading to an aluminum. i've heard good things about mishimoto. i've found some on ebay for around $225, which isnt bad. the question is, all the mishimoto rads on ebay are all advertised for crx's, and i have a hb, will it still fit?

anyone have any pics of a mishimoto installed?

 

I want one too, you can get 'em complete with a fan for about 300.00, plus it comes with the radiator cap, then you can get the hoses and fan switch too. But I heard they leak,
Hopefully someone will chime in, if they're good or not, otherwise I'd go with Koyo.

 

**** well i hope they do not leak... then i'de be stuck with the same problem i have now lol. i wonder how long my rad will last. knowing there is about a 1 inch crack on top of my rad, how long do you think it will hold? could it blow up because of too much pressure?

 

uh. The radiator has a crack in it G. Meaning it's losing pressure.

 

yeah i got that, but what could possibly go wrong? is overheating my only fear?

also according to wes vans page, da radiators fit great in ef's. so does this mean a da mishimoto will fit?

 

no one has any experience with mishimoto? i need to know if stock fans bolt up?

 

i just went ahead and bought a mishimoto 90-93 teg rad, so when it comes i will update this.

 

you can also get a JVT radiator they are also sold on ebay, I got a da JVT rad for $150, cheaper than the mishimoto. also as a side note I have heard the rad caps that come on these ebay rads are junk, use your stock cap

 

how did the da rad fit? do you have a civic or crx?

 

so it came, i got it in.

it was a bitch.

the radiator hoses were the hardest thing, it leaks like crazy right now. i think its from the lower hose, because i turned the car on let it run for a while, and it turns out the upper rad hose gets hot, and the lower doesnt. but my temp needle on the gauge shows its at normal temp?

when i put the lower rad hose on the actual radiator it was so hard, i used oil to help get it on, and it wouldnt budge. so i cut a couple little slits on the end of the hose to see if it would be easier to get on. finally got it on, and i think that might where it leaking from, considering the lower rad hose is not hot, and its leaking.

i did go to the auto store and get new hoses from a 90-93 integra, they fit fine on the actual radiator, but slid on too easy on the block so i said [freak] it and took them back.

so i'm kinda [freak]ed, and dont know what to do. any ideas?

 

the hose clamps should hold the bigger hose in place

as long as its not like too friggin huge of a difference which its not

 

so i found out what my leaking problem was, the [freak]ing drain plug was not tight at all, and didnt even think about checking it.

and since i had it on a lift i was able to take the bash guard off the bottom of the car to see the rad, and it was not seated properly on the rubber gromets, so after wiggling it a bit, it sat right. now the hood closes.

so i guess now the only problem is my fan not kicking on, maybe its not plugged in right, but i'm still not overheating at idle. i might just get some slim fans and call it good.

 

Yes I noticed on mine as well. the drain is crap, it had a crappy rubber seal I just got a new plug for it from the hardware store. also I hope you used a hose and flushed the rad a couple times before putting it on. I had a ton of aluminum dust and welding crap come out of mine. if you didnt, I would flush your whole cooling system a couple times with straight water to get it out. I ordered a da one as well to replace a non aluminum stock da rad, it actually fit better go figure. I thought I was going to have to fight to get it to fit in but actually lined up in the rubber mounts better!

 

yeah the mishimoto actually fits nice and snug, the fans are the only thing that questions me, do you suggest any slim fans?

 

after a while of driving, since the last time i posted in this thread i noticed the radiator cap is leaking slowly.

how i noticed: coolant reservoir running low. also while the car was cold, i started it and i monitored the cap while it was getting hot, and saw it seeping out a little bit.

i'm going to get a spoon type f cap, and see if this fixes the problem. hopefully.

well i have heard the stock cap does not work, the threading is different?

i would just go put it on, but i dont know where its at. i should go look for it lol.

 

so i found the stock rad cap, it actually does fit. so i'll monitor it and the coolant reservoir and see how it holds.

Man , I tried to installed an Mishimoto Da rad. and the fit was not great. Abit tall, my CF hood would not close. Plus, the outlet at the bottom was so close to my cross member, I couldn't fit the hose! I would have had to massage the cross member alot to make sure the hose would not rub. I have read that there was some DA rad. fit problems in some EFs. I guess you're lucky. And you do need a slim fan since the stock one doesn't fit.
