Basically trying to decide on a decently efficient turbo for an H build.

Setup: LoveFab SST Manifold, Tial 38mm WG, GM Map Sensor, Modified WRX Blue's.

Looking for decent spool, won't be running any more than 7lbs. I'm not real good with reading compressor maps, so I figure its probably better to ask from personal experience.

Will be running stock bottom end (JDM Closed Deck) possibly Type S Cams with no other headwork other than ARP Head Studs.

Intake manifold is still up in the air at the moment, but probably a Type S manifold.

All controlled by Hondata S300 on a JDM P30...

Last, looking for a turbo that is capable of keeping up with a build H. This way if/when a piston ring decides to give up, and I have it sleeved I can keep the turbo setup, just run more boost.

 

I love me the mid-throttle response of ball bearing turbos.

but have you considered a bullseye turbo?

 

If you get a SC6176 ball bearing with an S-cover, it's almost the exact same thing as a gt35r. Same Compressor wheel, and slightly bigger turbine wheel. I would consider borg warner s258 or s362...both are close to 35r. One being lightly smaller and one being slightly bigger.

I ran a sc61e on my stock jdm h22 and made roughly 325whp on 8psi ran low 12's-high 11's all day . The power band was nice made 8psi by 4500rpm . If you plan on making more than 500whp I'd go with 35r .

 

ive had a .63 a/r ex. not sure of the compressor side and it spooled up really quick, like 7psi partial throtle at 3000 rpm, but it felt as though it was choking out on the top end above 6000,but the turbo was going out so maybe that was why it was choking, so i got a gt35r .82 a/r exhaust and the 60 trim compressor and it spools by 4500 full 18psi at 5000. the .63 was by far a more fun street car because of the instant spool.

edit: this was with a log manifold though.

Oh yeah, with that displacement, I'd look into the V-band S362 ETT . I love the torque that is created with that turbo on an H22. Don't know if I have DYNO graphs though. We found it was just FANTASTIC though at Mid-America..

 

Leaning toward the SC61 .63 A/R right now (Price).

BUllseye Turbo's are nice, but at the moment out of my price range.

For now its going to be ran on a stock JDM bottom end, so I want to keep it mild for a bit.

Maybe 275wtq or around that area.
